4 car accident and I was the last one. Airbags deployed and was able to drive home. State Farm totaled her. I'm crying inside. Im leaning towards finding another 4th gen. What do you think. :(

How is that totaled? If you didn't even damage the hood, i don't think it was enough force for it to damage the frame. Is this all the damage?

Airbags deployed. So need all that stuff and a dash. close to 6k in repairs. And fair market value is around 8.5k so insurance called it an economic loss

Damn, that sucks man. Hope you find another one. But the impact seems so small to have triggered the air bags. Important thing is you're ok

You know, lots of people knock aftermarket steel bumpers because they tend not to set off the airbags. But here's a situation where you'd probably be fine physically had they not deployed and the car wouldn't be totaled.

Something to think about.

Just be happy it was only air and not shrapnel that deployed in the airbags!

Ditto...

and i agree with the other member.

Cut the airbags out. rip the front bumper off, take the doors off and jack that mutha up....

Ultimate "go anywhere" vehicle.

I wonder if it is possible to cash-in on the free dash replacement? Was it cracked before?LOL

LOL I was thinking the same thing when it happened. I've been looking for some 4runners in my area and are around that price. Kinda hard to do lol. The price point is pretty high for a 4th gen lol. I didn't know they fetched that much in price. I'm happy I made it out alive. But I'm still blinded by the fact I lost my baby and it'll be pretty hard to find another one

I'd buy it back and either part it out, or find one that has been totaled by being rear-ended and do a dash swap and reset the airbag module.

I work for an insurance company.

Blue Book isn't the end-all authority on value but it's going to set the first offer from the claims department. You don't have to accept it. If they aren't offering you enough to get an equivalent vehicle, tell them so. Offer to send them comparables from your area to show what they are going for. They'll increase their offer if you press them and support your stance with data.

Man I wish i you replied earlier lol. I accepted the offer already because I looked in the area and all the 04 sr5s are going for around that price. I really wanted to go into the 06-09 range but the mileage killed me. I was around 206K so they dinged me alot from that. Also I hope to talk the dealers/private owners down to a more reasonable price if I can. I hope this info can help someone else and allow them to get what they believe their beloved is worth

Mine was worse and I had mine fixed for way cheaper. I'm 1800 into it and it's done just waiting for paint.

Keep it and fix it with what they give you. It's really worth it and you'll still have her.

Sorry for your loss. But it will be someone else's gain. The mileage on yours was high which does decrease its value. Expand your search south. Lots around if you look. My #3 had 116k and I bought it for $3k. #4 has 58k paid $4k and the only parts I have had to buy for fixing two trucks was one radiator, one evaporator, one complete bumper and supports and one pulley and belt for the supercharger. Both #3 and 4 had "bent frames" in front of where the sway bar attaches so no problems with steering or alignments. Each truck had damage on opposite sides so the donor truck, #1, supplied the parts.

See how much they will give you for it and ask how much it would cost to buy it back with a salvaged title. I have heard of auto insurance companies total a car and giving the owner $5 grand and then selling the vehicle back to the owner for very little money.

When I totaled the 3rd gen I got them to tell me the amount if I kept it. Turned out it wasn't something I wanted to do. It did take some work to show them what the "real" market value was. I did not settle on the spot. It got me almost 1k more. Ended up getting more than I paid for it.
