Hey everybody. I am impressed with the wealth of knowledge this community has and have been lurking for the past few days after recently acquiring a 1997 4runner SR5 (hence my screen name lol). I come from the Honda world and have done a few things like build motors and ecu tuning so I like to say I am moderately mechanically inclined. Honda's are pieces of cake to work on BTW.
No pics of the rig as of yet but I wish to do a complete fluid flush of the drivetrain a section at a time. I just did an oil change so next on my list would be ATF.
The vehicle has ~140,000 miles and last ATF change was years ago. A check on the tranny dipstick reveals dirty ATF. I plan to do a pan drop/flush per Dropping Pan And Flushing Transmission instructions. Seems pretty straight forward and I really want to take care of this thing because I am tired of using my little Civic to carry the family around. I feel MUCH safer with my family in a 4runner.
Before diving in, I'd like to acquire the parts and replace the silicone gasket with a felpro rubber gasket for ease of use. Has anyone ever had any leaking issues with using the felpro?
I've read up on other threads with success stories but on the flip side, has there been accounts of doing this procedure ruining the transmission? These auto trannys are quite expensive so I'd like to be careful as possible.
Thanks everybody for any input and I hope to stay here for quite a while as I plan to keep this thing forever. Cheers!
