Should I buy this 3rd Gen 4runner?

Heres the info on this truck.

It is a 1997 4runner 117k miles with some wear and tear nothing to bad. it is going for 1000$

only problem that is known of is that it wont stay running, compression test, etc were all good. But the guy just cant figure out when the car will run but soon after cut off. Is it worth it to buy it and try to fix it.

FYI i have about 2500$ total to put on a car. IE 1000$ for 4runner and 1500 to fix it. Much thanks for all the info.
