should i powder coat and if so what color?

hey guys, so my whitson metal roof rack should be coming in today and i'm bouncing back and forth between if i should get it powder coated or just rattle can the thing, also i'm highly debating if i should go back to the stock 5-stars and paint them to match the roof rack.... or otherwise simply just paint the rack black with a rattle can chuck it on and call it a day.....

here's the color chart for most standard powder coating colors

i'm thinking i really want to go with a deep slate or a gun metal grey type of color for the 5-star rims and the rack but am not to sure on how it'll turn out with my truck being ; gun metal grey,black,silver and red highlights...

this is basically what it looks like now

so should i keep it as is and simply paint the new rack black and drop it on or should i go back to the 5-star stockers and paint both one of the grey colors from the above chart, i was liking the 7016 or the 7024....what do you guys think, it'll be alot cheaper with the rattle cans!!!

5 stars and whatever color suits you is my vote, not feeling your current wheels. Too much "Err time I come 'round bling bling" for me.

Either way, your truck should look sick with the new rack!

haha kind of feel the same way, i should be clear that the rims ended up being cheaper than spacers, i was at the tire store with 1k in cash for my tires had clearance issues , as i was about to walk the door and go get some spacers the guy said you can have these rims for $50, my thought was the rims have a better resale value than spacers and i could always just pick some spacers up later....and well here i am...the rims are defiantly not "me" but have grown on my in some sort of strange way.......yeah...i really don't know how i feel about them much like i don't know how going this route will turn out?

edit: just had a thought is this like a chick question concerning the couch matching the drapes and that b.s.....no homo.....lol

im a big fan of powder coating, but its so darn expensive! especially for small batch jobs. Both of the colors you picked out would look great on your truck, BUT, they are very close to what spray-on bedliner looks like, which is what i did with mine. its holding up pretty well and im rough with it, but even if it scratches, touch-up is a breeze, and its only a tad more expensive than rattle cans. most DIY bedliner brands have a small can of roll-on stuff too, which would make covering the mesh much much easier (lots of wasted paint trying to spray the mesh). also, the rims would look awesome in a satin black, me thinks.

i do agree with that though the yak i had on there before only got touched up once in the 12 years it was on there......

Make it some dark color, preferably a shade of grey. Maybe even a textured black/coal look. All the other additions to your truck are black so why change it. Looks good!

I vote for the 5 stars also, and match the color to your new rack.

Gunmetal sounds good, or something a little darker that can match your drapes, I mean armor.

that's basically what happened to me also. Ended up with bling bling rims too..haha but I got rid of those for LC80's.
I think yours would look great with some 5 stars matched to the color of the rack..
maybe both of em black or gunmetal imo.

right i'm pissed, it's sat out in front of my house for months as i just put there when i get back from fishing (i live on a lake) and never had a problem, new guy moves in down the road 2 weeks ago and now this...worst part is the best i can do is be passive aggressive with a sign letting the neighbors know there's a thief in the neighborhood.....

i'm setting one of these up with an HK pretty soon though and wont have to worry about it.

Lol, could be some liability issues there, maybe haha. Shoot I leave my junk out all the time, kayaks with poles and gear and ff and paddles sitting on a trailer, I guess having about 6 Leo's in our tiny hood helps a bit tho. Got any pawn shops nearby? Keep an eye on Craigslist too, might catch him that way.
