I ordered the materials to do a Raptorliner job on my 3rd gen. Originally I was planning on a white base (my color now) and overlaying yellow/orange/red for the TRD stripes on the body. But....that's probably going to be a royal PITA to get crisp lines. So I'm doing all white with black on the trim pieces and I'll just get window decals for stripes. I've seen several writeups on this but I had questions on the order of things and even the necessity to remove certain things. This is the flow of what I was thinking
1) fix small dents as able/Bondo as needed
2) caulk my roof rack bc there's a small rain leak getting in somewhere
3) Decide what will be black. Current thought is front ARB bumper, all wheel flares, running boards, rear bumper, back panel emblem pieces, license plate trim, possibly door handles
4) scuff everything down, clean with solvent as indicated.
5) use adhesion promoter on proper areas
6) remove antenna, rear wiper, rear brake lights, rear hatch light
7) mask off and tape windows/grill/wheels etc
8) do black first on trim pieces, wheel flares, bumpers etc (possibly fix loose flare clips first) while flare and trim are on the car with general masking around.
9) next day, mask off black part and do the whole rig in white, careful attention to door handle, mirror seams, etc to make sure nothing sticks
10) reinstall small parts, wiper, etc.
Am I missing something? I know some people do clear coat afterwards. I wasn't going to. If i really care, I can do it later but I like matte. My concerns were:
1) front bumper was a PITA to install, do I really need to remove it or should I just spray it while it's on there? you won't see the fine edges that aren't exterior anyways.
2) door handle trims....if I leave them on and spray over, they would be stronger and won't flex in the winter which they do. If they ever break and need replacement...that's going to be hard to break through the liner. So spray after removal from vehicle or leave on?
3) similar with emblems, likely I'll leave on
4) worried about chrome adhesion quality despite scuffing/promoter spray
anyone do this and have pearls of wisdom to share? I'll also be posting pics as another writeup as we do this soon.
