Should I step up to a 285/70/17?

The 275 vs 285 vs tall skinnies is where I'm currently at as well. I wonder though, why is it that everyone says you "might" need to do a BMC? Aren't these trucks pretty much all the same, and tire brands sizing only varies typically by a few tenths?

If 285s really are that close to everything, running them probably isn't the best idea? Heaven forbid you hit a pothole and rip your fender out because your suspension compressed a few inches.

I think a lot of it has to do with wheel width/offset choices. The greater of either, the greater the likelihood of rubbing, and at varying extents.
