I wouldn't keep it, I wouldn't buy 4 new new ones either. (That's just crazy talk in my book)

Every tire shop I've ever been to, miraculously has the exact matching used tire to sell me at a slight discount. I look around at shops and see if any of them can hook you up.

This was really a test to identify the type A crowd on this forum. lol

WTH is it called? the part under the rubber? Not a tire knowledge expert here.

Thanks for all the feedback. No bulging. I have driven over 70 plenty, after. It happened about a month ago and it seems fine. I can however, very slightly peel it, but dont want to keep doing that and make it worse.

Butyl and barrier. Above that is ply. If you see fabric coming out, which is what it looks like, you've damaged the ply. The ply gives the tire it's structural integrity and if it's compromised it will lead to failure. Tires are cheap compared to your life and the vehicle cost. Your call.

Danny, if it was just a trail rig I would say let it ride...but you have kids that ride in that 4Runner, man!

ANY sidewall damage on a tire is considered unrepairable. It's just not safe, That area flexes with every rotation, not to mention loads imposed under cornering and braking. Damage will cause more heat and it WILL fail.

Replace the tire, period. Any reputable tire shop will tell you that.

As for all of you telling him to drive on a damaged sidewall, shame on you.

Absolutely this!! No tire shop ever repairs sidewall damage - that should tell you something.

If you are worried about it, occasionally spray some Windex on it. Look for bubbles. You picture is not clear. Appears to be a sidewall blemish. Consider the Offroad Warranty on your next tire purchase.

Edit: move this tire to the rear.

I always get the discount tire warranty certificates. Has easily paid for itself. This damage would have gotten you a free replacement tire for the cost of the $20 certificate.

Like Antman said.. I would swap this out Danny.

As far as changing out all 4 at the same time : how would you ever use your spare if tire wear alone would mess up the awd system?

Thanks and have a great day!

Took it to the professionals (america's tires) they said looks fine and it's not deep enough to cause a concern.

However, I think I will do what nglayton said... find a similar tread and use this one as a spare.

Thanks for all the input... Especially to those who watch out for the community's safety!
