Skid Control on 2006 V8

Hey gang,

I missed my window of opportunity on the other 06 I was looking at - a 2006 Sport V8 with 80K for $14,900 (still kicking myself). So now I'm looking at a different one.

From everything I've read here and elsewhere, the skid control is not all that great when driving in the snow, trying to get un-stuck, etc.

It also seems that on the 2006 models, you don't have the ability to turn it off.

On the one I'm looking at, though, it seems to have a button for it on the left side of the steering wheel (where the 4 buttons reside). It's the one that looks like a schematic of 4 wheels/axles, with the top ones skewed to the right. Did they have the on/off option for different versions in 2006?

I'm a mistaken? Or is that button for something else?

If it's that bad, which models WILL allow you to turn it off?

If its 4wd that's the center differential lock button (should be 4 wheels with an x in the middle with the fronts turned right).. I don't believe its possible to turn it off in pre 2008 models without modifying wiring and adding a switch, or unhooking the abs motor altogether when you want it disabled. Just trying to go off memory from what I've seen here.

Skid control works great on my 05. If through reading you've been led to think otherwise, I think that's a disservice, although I suppose it could have been made more sensitive in subsequent years. What you're referring to, though, is either 08 or 09 models which have a button that turns off engine suppression or engine suppression plus skid control. The button you're referring to on the 06 turns off both skid control and engine suppression but in doing so, it also locks the center diff. That's the same setup I have on my '05 and I think it works great.

Yeah, I probably am reading more into it. Always easier to post something negative than positive, which is probably the bulk of what I had been reading.

At least with the locking diff you can override the skid control if you need to, but my experiences with it may turn out to be positive, anyway.
