Slider Threads for 3rd Gens?

I am not too savvy at the search option...trying to locate any threads on sliders for 3rd gens.... I like the looks and price of Savage Off Road, plus they have combo deals if you get skids too. I want sliders for sure, possibly rear bumper and skids. CBI, Savage, who else is worth considering? Doing the budget thing so price is considered. Also I am not versed on DOM vs HREW tubing....if there is a chance you will smack them do you need to pay the extra $100 (seems standard upgrade cost) for DOM? Also some companies paint them, some dont....trying to sort this all out. I imagine there are threads already so I will keep looking!

I'm in the midst of this right now. I chose Savage after seeing WMeredith's slider post. Did a lot of research and discussion on the web and in person. That Roy fella was really nice and helpful. Got the HREW w/kickouts. $328 shipped. Maybe a little more expensive than others but he does all the fabricating and assembling for ya. Just got back from my welder buddy's shop where I finally finished painting them and he was very impressed with the workmanship (I know virtually nothing about metals and fabricating). The gussets are more beefy than others I've seen. I chose to POR-15 them and top coat with Rustoleum Hi-temp outdoor grill paint. Welding them on Sunday as well as my panhard bar drop. yeah -

Savage is a little over an hour, maybe hour and a half drive from me....makes me tempted to just get their sliders and either the rear bumper or their skid plate package, not sure which would be wiser maybe skids if I had to choose?

I emailed them last year, it could be possible for me to drop it off, have them paint the stuff and install it all for a fair package price...might be easiest....I live in LA so sure there are other shops who would do the same, but they seem to have lots of reps with 4runners so why not give them a shot if it i their niche

I can't tell from the pics but I hope you didn't POR15 the part that is going to be welded sunday. It almost looks like you left it bare but I can't tell. They do appear well made :thumb3:

I'm in LAC area also. I'll be picking up a set of sliders from Savage later this month. Lots of good reviews. Though, I'm considering having the sliders made flat as opposed to having the 20 degree angle.
 
Trail Gear sliders :thumb3: $179 and took the whole weight of my truck during a 45mph roll over with barely a scratch. Haters gonna hate.
 
Stubbs HD-SKO. I've never found a better vendor for anything I've ever done for my 4Runner. Can't recommend him enough. The guy makes his living just building sliders and has owned every type of 4Runner. His welds were beautiful. I paid $3XX shipped to Ohio from NorCal. Can remember exactly what it was.

I have the same, got them for $176 shipping included about a year and half ago. Great price for DOM tubing sliders.
Fortunately I haven't rolled mine to test them out, BUT they did a great job of stopping a big Cadillac door from denting the hell out of my drivers side door.

I was actually just walking around the back of my truck and as I came around this rather large woman was pushing that gigantic Cadillac door wide open with her foot and WHAM right into the sliders HARD.
It would have been one of those pretty major parking lot dents that just appear outa nowhere.
Instead I got the sheer pleasure of watching this Cadillac door get a nice big half moon stamped into it right on the edge of the door, looked nasty when the door was closed too.
Didn't even chip the paint on the sliders because half of it was covered with the non slip traction tape, not even a trace of the hit.
As she got out, I said: "Betcha you wish you hadn't done that huh?"

I couldn't help from laughing because I know damn well this woman has no doubt caused $1000s of dollars of damage to countless car doors all over the city.
I wish I could put smaller thinner parking lot sliders on my wife's Lexus.
I would do it in heartbeat.

Nah, I made sure to keep it away from there. Bad pic at sunset. There's some goop from the POR prep stuff down there but it will get cleaned before welding.
bluecollarjack -call the Roy fella and talk ask him what he can do. Never met the guy, but he was nice to me -

I liked the design and shape of his sliders, and that he was local was also a deciding factor for me.

As for painting them, when I dealt with him, he said that he didn't have the provisions to paint them. I painted them myself after they were installed. That was kind of a pain in the butt.

How much did he charge to weld?

I am going to check out all the other sites..and keep considering Savage as well. I have no room (live in apartment in beach town) to mess around doing anything, even painting and in this town if I did it while parked on a street who knows if someone called I could get a ticket. If I could strike a deal with Savage to build, paint, and weld them for a fair price might be worth the drive.

Now just trying to decide if money is tight as it always is, is a rear bumper more important the skid plate package from Savage? if I smash the rear stock bumper I will not be upset as long as it doesnt smash up the body. Not sure how good the stock skids are.

Anyone in LA/OC want some stock perfect shape running boards off a 98 4runner?
 
If you are going to wheel get the skids before the bumper. That transfer case is expensive to get replaced! Give Roy a call he is a good guy. I might be biased though as I am one of his best friends!
 
Drive to Big Bear...

So as I was driving the beautiful So-Cal mountain today suddenly a set of Sliders jumped into my truck with me. It is funny how that stuff happens. I guess they just needed a good home. Install this weekend I hope. Pics to follow.

Ol Blue where did they jump into your truck from? I might need to road trip there this weekend hoping the off road genie blesses me as well :-)

Gosh, this Roy guy must be a good dude....everyone on here that has communicated with him seems to really like him.

Ok...once school is over I will contact Savage Off Road and see what kind of price I can get for sliders and skids painted and installed at his place....save the rear bumper for later

Just look through CL. We are lucky to be in So-Cal. There are so many great deals if you are willing to work with people and drive a little.
