Smaller or Relocated Windshield Washer Reservoir

Hey Folks,

I need to relocate my windshield washer reservoir and want to use a smaller one and put it in the engine compartment. But really I am open to any idea that will move it out of the passenger fender area. I am having my King reservoirs mounted in that area.

Someone recently posted about this but I can't find it for the life of me.

That one looks nice. I just don't want to spend $200 on it.

On a side note....I just attempted to take off the roof rails. I cracked on of the plastic pieces (not bad) and never got one off. I only spent about 10 minutes attempting but said screw it for now.
 
I know. I looked around last year when I was debating bumper vs hidden winch. Not a lot of options for relocated washer tanks
 
Dang I should have told you the best way of getting the caps off , one of my 1st ? & was told to search so I did . The pop off point is about an inch & 3/4 from each end & you need fairly skinny & wide screwdriver or butter knife to slip underneath it & slowly pop it off .I have a cpl of the old ones but their black if you want ?

Thanks for the tip on the butter knife. I will try that tomorrow. If I screw anymore of them up I will let you know! I appreciate the offer....truly!!

I found a universal washer reservoir kit on Summit that will fit just behind the passenger headlight. I think I am going to order it and tackle the project....should be interesting as removing the roof rails caps was a pain in the ass! haha
 
Cool hope the kit works ! Ya once you find the right spot it's a breeze , just take it slow till you have it under the edge & it'll be easy .
 
it was me and my fix only cost me 15 dollars and a few minutes with a razor knife. I search everywhere for a great low cost option.
 
I used the same 'overflow' bottle on my landrover for the washer bottle. Worked ok, but the cap was crap (cracked quick).

I purchased it and after some more thought have decided to scrap it. I am looking at reservoir bags much like the older Bronco Bags. I believe I can splice the wires to the pump and install with sheet metal screws and washers to the passenger fender wall just in front of the air box. I think this will hold up better pre running through the desert. I will lose the squirters to the rear window but no biggie.

That looks interesting. Never seen a bag like that.
 
08 4runner washer reservoir relocate

The factory reservoir has a round nub on the bottom. I strategically drilled a hole in my fender well and used a rubber gommet and a piece of rubber hose to protect the reservoir. Fabed up the simple brackets to hold the reservoir in the right spot so the hood cylinder didnt hit it. Yes you can change the breather filter easily. It does look tight but its not. Extended my wiring with a $5 weatherproof 4wire plug from the parts store since my factory pump harness was damaged in the wreck. I took a hack saw and cut the factory fill tube just below the lid and pushed it in the rubber grommet on top of the reservoir. That was luck.

I didnt take enough pics to do an entire write up but its easy to recreate.

Heres what I done.
