Smallfrye's 2018 Tacoma

After 10 years of 4runner ownership (1996,2000,2002 and a 2010) I decided to move on and try something a little different.

2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad, with 10 miles on the ODO when I picked her up and 104 miles as of starting this thread.



Not sure where this build will take me I have a few ideas in mind but nothing set in stone. These are just some of the ideas floating around in my head.

TRD Pro Grille
Interior swap to the Hickory color (I like that color for some reason but its only available on the Limiteds)
Skids and sliders

I want to see where the stock setup will take me before I do anything suspension or tire wise.

The first major trip with her will be White Rim trail in Moab in late October followed by a move to Colorado.

OEM TRD Pro Grille - looks so much nicer than the stock grille that comes standard on the Offroad.





Aleady looks better with out the chrome trim.




Overall, it was an quick and easy install that made a nice change.

Picked up a set of dark brown Clazzio leather seat covers and installed over the past two evenings in my garage. Finally moved it out of the garage see how the dark brown leather looks in the light. I Still have to tweak a few things to get the wrinkles out and finished up but so far I'm liking it.

Took a longer way home last weekend after mountain biking down Temple Canyon Road.

Ran White Rim trail on Sunday to see how the stock setup on the truck does on the trail (only about 1700 miles on the truck as of this post).

Which way did you drive it? It would be interesting to see if the shocks get fade over the long rock pavement section before Airport if driving from Mineral Bottom at a good pace. Doubt the other way would tell much of anything about the shocks. I got pretty beat up in a usually very comfy Outback when driving it in that direction in a short day. When I drove it from Potash, it was with an overnight camping and at a more leisurely pace.

Glad for you, epic views, the two named hills plus the narrow section by the water are among my favorite roads to drive.

Drove up Potash to start on the Shafer trail side. The ride was fine on the stock setup but I prefer the ride of the Bilstein 5100 that I had in my 4runner slightly better ride. The Tacoma will see 5100's down the line.

Come to think of it, doesn't the Tacoma come with 4600s stock? I am pretty sure that's the same shock as 5100 except non adjustable.

The ARE Z series topper I order a few backs came in and was installed last Saturday. I add some weatherstripping under the bed caps and a little bit of silicone at a few locations along the front bulkhead. I like the OEM tri-fold cover I had but at the same time it was a bit of hassle for my needs so the topper was the replacement for it.



Installed the Sabellco tail gate lock I picked up in January.
