smart stop technology recall

Hello all so i took my 2003 4runner limmited edition for the recall today and during the computer update the dealship put in the wrong update i think they downgraded the update thats what they said the guy who did it but gave it back to me said everything was ok,i drove it out the parking lot and the trac light came on so i took it back told him something was wrong come to find out they download the wrong update so they gave me a retal said they dont have the tools to fix it and have to call toyota tech support and will prob have to get a new computer for it do you think that later in the future i will have problems with anything since they screwed this up.

Probably not as long as they get the proper calibration in the ECM (either by reprogramming or replacing the ECM). It's weird that happened, it's pretty damn hard to mix the calibrations up, also they can't "downgrade" Toyota doesn't let you back flash.

I received notice of the recall also, like most of us. Have been wondering if I want to do it. I can't think of any time that I use both the brake and accelerator at the same time even when off road, but. What say you.

Can you sign waiver releasing all Toyota liability to avoid having this update done at the dealer?

Got my notice from Toyota as well last week. What I don't like is the verbiage "This will cut engine power if case of simultaneous application of both the accelerator and brake pedals at certain speeds and under certain driving conditions".

What is Toyota's definition of "under certain driving conditions". What might these conditions be?

You should be able to, at the very least you'll have to be absolutely vigilant if you take it to a dealer to make sure they don't sneak it in.

Not entirely sure, but with the Corollas the engine would cut to idle when both the brake and gas were held for too long at the same time.

You are not required to have any recall performed, but you can't sign a waiver. If you choose not to have the recall performed, you will continue to receive notifications. The manufactures are obligated to contact you so that if you choose not to have the recall performed, you can't sue them if something goes wrong. You do have to be very vigilant when you take it in because they will always try to perform the service. I had to decline the pedal recall in writing every time I took my 4 runner in for service.

I ignored this recall, honestly at this point I wouldn't trust them to wash my truck...
