what do you guys use as a de-odorzier? i've tried using chlorine foggers and spraying the interior down with vodka and i can't quite shake this mildew smell. I don't the vodka made the most improvement but at $20 a handle for the cheapest costco crap, i don't want to spend an arm and a leg on it.

A friend forgot and left a tub of chicken liver in mine after a fishing trip - which I didn't discover for 3 days - I tried everything under the sun for 3 weeks. I eventually gave up and ordered a 12v cig lighter ionizer from Amazon in desperation that the smell would never go away. It took a couple weeks because it only worked when I was driving the Whale and the lighter socket was powered, but I do remember noticing one day that there was no smell at all, and it's been that way ever since. I still use it periodically because I smoke and it helps keep that smell down. I think mine was $20.

Guarantee that stuff is on the under side of your carpet. Seriously pull them all out power wash them and let the backside cook in the lusterious radiation of the sun. Scrub the now bare interior with a dilute bleach solution. Oh just buy more vodka :madgrin:
 
do you know where the smell came from in the first place? is it really mildew (moisture)?

i'd use something like a Bissell Carpet Extractor (you can probably rent something) and really go to town on all the carpet/fabric. that oughta put a dent in it.

beyond that, charcoal works really well for absorbing odors. these Moso Bags are actually pretty great, especially in a vechicle. even just a bag of regular charcoal works (not as well, in my experience) but the more of its surface area that's exposed to the air the better (hence the Moso's breathable bag)

My husband likes to leave dead wet grass in the lawnmower. I park in the garage. Turn on the air and gross. I change my cabin filter and it fixes the issue every time.

Edit: nevermind.... you've got bigger problems..... Servepro?

three fold. when i first got the truck, the condenser drain was clogged and the condenser filled with water, which spilled out onto the carpets. also when they repainted my truck and took the roof rack off the bastards didn't reseal the bolts in the roof and water leaked in everywhere

its in the carpet, its in the head liner and its in the condenser/airbox

i just want to set this thing on fire

That really sucks but I lived it as well with a 03 Corvette Z06. I tried everything and finally ended up pulling the seats and carpet then shampooed and left in direct sunlight for a few days. Much smaller car and simpler process that T4R but you'll be happier once its done. Not sure how to fix the headliner. Good luck...

ugh. oh man, that sounds terrible. have you pulled it all out?
 
If you haven't tried vinegar, I highly suggest you do. Just buy the cheapest gallon from Wal-Mart that you can find and put it in a spray bottle and saturate everything that can absorb it. The vinegar smell will dissipate by itself after drying. Can also use this for other bad smells like pets, smoke, sweat.

The no. 1 choice for CO wasters to get out the dankness if they have to sell their cars.
 
Possibly too much information but:
My father was a funeral director and sometimes things were beyond control of us mere mortals. Trust me on this, the Ozium works on odors you cannot even comprehend.
Roll up all the windows, spray into the interior liberally but don't wet anything down and let sit overnight. It may take a couple nights applications but it will work. Unfortunately the Ozium odor when fresh out of the can is also very disgusting but it will dissipate once the windows are reopened.
I bought a Corvette that a smoker had owned and cleaned all the non porous surfaces first then did the Ozium treatment. It took 4 nights but afterward the smoke smell never returned.
There are also electric ozonators that hotels use to deodorize rooms. I know car dealers also use these when there is an issue.

+1 for ionization devices. I work in the HVAC industry and we put specify to put this technology in every home, school, hospital, and commercial building. Everyone I know raves about them and will potentially become required in government buildings in the future down here. They work great for odors, allergens, etc. Have it in my home and I purchased this specific one for my car.

So what do you recommend for home use?
 
i got some of that smell-bad-eraser from Autozone. letting it air out now to see if it made any kind of a difference
