Smittybilt rear bumper on a 1st-gen

Picked up a used front and rear smittybilt for dirt cheap, and they'll do for now. I thought the brackets would slot right into the chassis rails, but instead they line up just outside, and there's a body mount in the way.

Anybody ever installed one of these on a first gen? Is this bumper bent?

Mounting on the outside sounds right, but I can't picture a body mount being in the way, can you post a pic?

These were taken looking at the outside of the right rear frame rail, the body mount is in the upper right of the photos. If they aren't clear, I'll try and get some more when it's light out. Long story short, the bracket for the body mount is welded to the outside of the frame rail, and begins within an inch. There's no room for the bumper brackets.

My google-fu is weak, but I can't find pics or threads detailing the install of one of these things. Probably because it's so pathetically simple. :ybrick:

I think it may be a pickup vs. 4Runner issue. I've seen the Smittybilt rear tube bumper on an '85 pickup, and it was indeed mounted to the outside of the frame rails. I attempted to move the bumper to an '89 4Runner, but those pesky body mounts were in the way.

Perhaps Smitty bilt a version for the 4Runner that mounted to the inside of the frame rail?

Yes. My smitty bilt bumper mounts on the inside of my frame on my 87 4runner. Two bolts per side. When I got it, I had to bend the mounting arms on the bumper just slightly in to make it easier to get in. I don't know much else about these bumpers and mounting them. First experience. I lucked out, because I had my welder out and ready to go when I was finally able to get the holes to line up.

The 4runner smittybilt mounts on the inside , the trucks mount on the outside!
