Snorkel for 4runner

BE AWARE that there is a cabin vent in the rear drivers side in the cargo are. I was in water and had no idea that thing was even there, later to find out why it came in when taking EVERYTHING out to get the mud out! im not sure where it is on other vehicles but on the 99 it located behind the drivers side rear bumper end piece.
heres the pic, it was deper than this but i was tryin to get the hell out when i saw the damn water!!!!

the speaker covers dont seal very well though!!!!!!:biggrin2:

With all this talk about snorkels, has anyone actually taken their 4th Gen in deep enough water to require a snorkel?

If so, how did the door seals hold up? When the water was above the door line, did it start to seep in or stay dry?

I was once in crossing the water with up to headlights level. Couple inches more and I'd have some trouble with intake.
The other thing is that when you crossing nearly the maximum level of water is the wave. Wave from your bumper what can hydro-lock the engine. I, personally, saw this couple times when wave going over the hood and watering the intake.
My door sills were fine, I didn't mention any leaking there, but I was moving. I don't know how they would perform if you stopped.

That sucks. Did you have any electrical damage? Can the vent be sealed?

This is a great example of what can happen. What about everyone else? Keep the info coming.

i have no idea how the only electrical damage i recieved was a fried alt and a blown fuse for the basslink! the water went up to the hood ABOVE the lights at first. THANK GOD the wave the runner made lowered the water a bit and i nailed it, to get the hell outta there! I couldnt make it cause of the STUPID ASS MANIK grill guard, so i had to back out!! they are NOT ment for trail riding out here. damn rigs on 44's ruin it for ner stockers man, that GG made it worse as i had a terrible angel of aproach.

and that wasnt just from the fan splatter. it was underwater!!!

i got EXTREMELY luscky as i didnt suck any water into the intake!!

dont worry about it... water doesnt hurt anything..... :bash:

although i can honestly say that i have never had water come in my truck no matter how deep (deepest ive ever been is about 6" up the windshield) unless i get stuck. but i will say that my JL Audio door speakers worked much better after they got wet

and you know you like the deckplate mod.... lol, thank god for silicone!!!

nope, and it pains me to not have them, though i am going out in teh woods again soon, and i usually do find deep water in florida around this time of year, ill try and get some crazy water crossing photo's before the end of summer
