Snow Climb in the T4R - not easy but we made it (vid)

Wow, what great weekend of snow play in the 4R - we received a bit more than expected which made for really fun trail driving. Here's a quick clip of a hill climb that is actually steeper (and slicker) than it might appear, but the 4R scratched and clawed all the way over the top. I'm really glad it made it because backing down that would have been quite a white-knuckle ride.

Air down the tires a little, better traction and less reeving.

The one thing I learned about snow climbing is keep the vehicle moving or you're done and backing all the way down - a few scary lessons teaches quickly -haha. I definitely should have aired down another 10 lbs or so (was at 26), but didn't have any issues until this climb.

MCCobray - I was keeping a close eye on the ATF and it was around 200-220 for most of the drive but hit as high as 256 after plowing thru some deeper stuff but came down quickly. I can't remember exactly what it was after that climb run, but I do remember it wasn't as high as that.

Ok, I was in deep up my doors, but, before I stopped, was crusing 15-20 mph, all that armor was acting like a sleigh. Couldn't get any traction that deep to back out, had to use the winch and turn myself 180. LOL, fun times.

Not sure if your on LT or p tires, that would depend on if you should go down 10 more.
I was at 12psi.

so before people go and say im bashing, im, not its just my observation and opinion, but man, i cant see how people like the KM2 tires so much, they are terrible in the snow... i think if it was not for your lockers f/r you would of been sol on that climb. but yes airing down would deff have helped too. i have dropped down to 8-10psi before with no issues without beadlocks, and it helps tremendously. great video btw, and glad to see you are getting out and using your new rig! jelly of the snow

Yes, F&R. Airing down would have definitely helped, and it's hard to tell from the view but the last part is a little steeper than it looks. Fun weekend, can't wait to get back out there.

but man, i cant see how people like the KM2 tires so much, they are terrible in the snow...

I really don't have much to compare them to off-road snow driving, but they were on the vehicle when I purchased it (almost brand new) so have just stuck with them.

Has anyone found a good, rugged off-road tire that they really like in both dry and snow conditions? I thought the KM2's did a fine job shedding snow rather than packing it in, but still seemed to struggle digging in on the slick stuff.

I personally like the maxxis bighorns... A lot cheaper like almost $80 cheaper per tire and they will take you any place the KM2s will... They have more sipping (KM2s don't have any) and the tread blocks are more broken up, they have some of the nice characteristics of an all terrain but yet perform like a mud terrain when it counts. The other tire I'd look at is the MTR. But again as you said they came on the truck when you bought it, and I probably would not switch them out till I got my use out of them. Though of the three tires I have heard the KM2s balance out the best. Just everyone I know who has them hates them in packed snow and ice or even wet roads. I guess its more of a brand loyalty I guess idk... The old KM1s were killer tires and I wish they still made that tire
