With all the underbody rust and brake caliper corrosion issues that all T4R's have, how long do you guys wait after a snow storm/salt spread by the public works before you take your SUV to a car wash to get it cleaned?

a) after all the snow melts
b) after the roads dry up
c) when your vehicle accumulates a lot of salt powder
d) spring
e) never
f) other

Not as easy just to hose your car down at home given the fact that temperatures are probably still below freezing and/or there are long lines at the car wash.

I go by the forecast solely. If it gets too dirty, Ill wash it regardless.

What does "go by the forecast" mean?

In the East Coast, with an El Nino year, that pretty much means an Alberta Clipper prediction almost every week, if not twice/week.

Because of last year, that means PW depts will be putting down salt, sand and chemicals even if there's no snow, not to mention during the snow too.

I spray it up my ass around holidays.

Take a look under a T4R and then under a Honda Pilot. Everything under a Honda Pilot looks like it's been powdercoated.

yea clearly it wasnt maintained. that doesnt happen overnight and the owner did nothing to prevent it from getting worse

I'm not arguing that it's not a water dispersant. What I am saying is that it's a lubricant also.

I do the same. If it gets very salty, I head to the DIY car wash and try to get as much off of the undercarriage. On average, I head to the carwash (with pressure washer) about 1 every 2 weeks or so.

Pretty much only when it gets really dirty. They use brine (water & salt mixed with dirt) up here on both the California and Nevada side. The first year I noticed a little rust I was under there with some rustoleam primer and then painted the areas.

So areas like the diff (where the bolts are) and the axles were initially showing rust but I took care of those.

As to the sway bar links... I'm going to change them out someday. They're my benchmark and honestly, it's just surface rust w/o anything serious.

As soon as the roads are dry so it doesn't get coated again on the way home.
