Fellas,

I will admit I was on the fence about keeping my 4Runner. Everyday I go to her and drive 65 miles round trip to work, it don't matter if it is raining snowing or both we are going.

The problem is the optomistic MPG guage reads 16.0 all the time on the highway. This is causing a strain on my purse strings as you can imagine.

The old girl needs some Love the manifolds are leaking, tires are getting bald, the front end is poping, there is even a little rust coming through on the rear hatch.

With all of this I had to make a choice do I keep her or do I kindly send her on her way?

Well after much deliberation and looking at a new 4Runner and FJ I just can't shake the feeling that they aren't making them like they used to. Not to mention the price of the new ones for what you get.

I decided to keep her.

I just ordered new LTX MS2 to fix the tire situation. The manifolds are going to have to wait until spring to get evaluated on the severity of my farm truck sounding leak. I don't know what I am going to do with the rust pot yet but I will probly just put a bumper sticker over it and call it good for now. The sway bar bushings will be changed soon, and I need to figure out how to get my spare tire winch down to replace it.

Sounds like a good choice since the two vehicles you were considering aren't any better on gas, might as well put the work into the one you have. Gl!

What Zooperman said: good call on keeping it. Every dollar you invest in replacement of worn out parts represents an extension of the truck's useful life. You're way ahead of the game by avoiding truck payments. Take that savings and
invest it in replacement of worn out parts, and drive that 4Runner until the wheels fall off it, which should occur somewhere north of 300,000 miles. The fact that you're not making large monthly payments should go a long way toward alleviating the burdens of poor gas mileage. Remember, you OWN that truck!
