great write up. I was wondering about since i have to do an oil change here in a couple miles. I had on 04 sport trac and I always prefilled the oil filter, I'd usually do it while I was waiting for the last drops of oil the come out the bottom end. It would take about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart of oil to fill it. I had the system down pretty good so I'd just fill it once and check it the level after I ran it for a min Whether it did anything or not who knows i will still try to do it along with a magnet on the filter and drain plug.

I know it's probably a waste of time, but presoaking the filter was ingrained in me by my old school hot rod loving high school auto shop teacher. I figure, it doesn't hurt anything and if you let it soak for a little bit, it doesn't make too much of a mess.

I'd argue (not that that's saying much) that it isn't really anymore more of a hassle or time consumer than having to add an extra 1/2-1 quart after you start it because the filter fills up.

It doesn't hurt a thing...and if it gives you piece of mind...that's great.

When you have a turbo/supercharger you need to prefill the filter. I don't know how necessary it is, but when i worked at a lube shop, we had to fill all the filters on vehicles with a turbo, and the big diesel filters too.
