Just realized this forum is what the FJ forum used to be. Dont know what happened over there but visited several threads and got nothing but pics of chicks butts bent over sticking in the camera, which is great but what does it have to do with Toyota's? I remember great technical discussions, fantastic trips being planned out, new ideas, it was awesome and now just kiddie porn, how far it has fallen. Hope that doesn't happen here. And by the way, you used to be able to criticize any and all freely at the fj forum, now the slightest critcism gets you banned for life instantly. What a great American institution the FJ forum has evolved into. Starting to wonder if the old schoolers grew up and bought 4 runners.

Well, I'll admit I haven't visited the FJ forum (because I generally don't go to forums of things I don't own, can't comment from experience on, etc.), but I'm willing to go way out on a limb and say that if you do criticize anyone, in any forum, like an adult (meaning without profanity, name calling, using English or some type of understood communication), you will likely NOT get banned at all, let alone for life. I have disagreed with too many folks to count over the years in newsgroups and forums and have never even had so much as a warning from an admin. Then again, I try to post my comments as I would like others to post theirs (without belittlement and not making it personal but about the topic at hand), so that may help.:drummer:

I was a member of the FJC boards at the very beginning since I bought an 07 ages ago.
The boards started off with a bunch of surly bastards arguing how BASE the FJC needs to be prior to launch... no power seats, no "luxuries" like heated mirrors that clean ice off at -20F so you can see behind you, and that it's to be a core off roader/tank/thing.
Then it arrived and everyone put up photos of the blue ones, because they all were blue at first and made fun of the 10 people who bought the cherry one.
Windshields started cracking and no one could get one.
Roofs were leaking because the shitty roof rack... is, well, shit.
Then someone discovered you can add ATRAC functionality with a simple switch. Every thread was about tearing the dash apart to install it, until someone (maybe me?) pointed out you can just pry out the switch blank with a pocketknife--the guys who tore down the entire dashboard still argued it was the BEST way to do it.
Then the fenders started cracking because the thing is made by drunk, unemployed fishermen at the Hino truck plant and isn't really a Toyota...
Then the T/O bearings started exploding on the MT models.
Many heads exploded because it clearly is user error, since Toyotas are infallible. FJC faithful are worse than Glocktards.
I lost interest in the "community" after the first or second T/O bearing--I think Gatorland Toyota also managed to fubar my t-case somehow with one of the transmission "repairs." I think that was in 2010 or 11?
Not sure what has happened since, but the Prius joke thread I started is still going strong, and most of the forum veterans have either been killed by exploding T/O bearings or lost fingers trying to fabricate a repair since Toyota won't fix the design flaw and maintains it's water entering the transmission...
ETA, oh, yea, and apparently the engines are now falling out of the fooking things because the engine mounts go to crap after a while.
ETA2... there was also a lot of herp derp about the diff lock and ATRAC not being able to work together because the Toyota "engineers" who designed the thing didn't think you'd need both at the same time, there were workarounds until one if the TuRD editions made it standard and the entire world was changed.
...fun times.
