about 3.5 gallons. my setup is 70" long. you get another .64 Gallons for every 12" you extend it. there is room to extend it about 12 on my setup. Water pressure is great when attached to my portable compressor.

Looks like he painted it. If so it should hold up ok. I like this idea and since it sits on top you should get some nice hot water too!

Im a plumber and i cant believe ive never seen or thought of this. I think i will make one just for camp trips and since i can get my hands on larger pipe it can be shorter but still have decent volume

Yes PVC painted flat black to absorbed the heat. Should be nice and warm when the ocean water is 55 degrees!

I look forward to reading about how well this heats the water. The PVC pipe wall is a good insulator, and should normally prevent heat transfer from the surface to the water. (That's why copper pipes sweat in humid conditions and PVS don't. And why aluminum or glass cups sweat and plastic cups don't.)
I hope it works for you, as that would make an inexpensive alternative to the plastic WaterPort or aluminum Road Shower.
