Sold the 4Runner :(

I sold the 4runner, and it'll get picked up middle of next week. It kind of hit me today that it's actually going to be gone. I'm going to have to do without a 4x4 for at least a year, maybe more, but was planning to get another 4runner as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

Then I got to thinking about maybe getting a pickup. If I were to get a pickup, I'd get a 4x4 and a V8. So out of curiousity, I did 15 mins of research on Nissan Titans, since I've always kind of liked them. Holy cow. Maybe I'm spoiled from my 4runner's...but those truck's have all kind of problems! I think I'll stick to a 4runner. (Taco is too small and no V8, don't like the old Tundra's, can't afford a newer Tundra)

Anyone have a full size pickup that they love? Reliable and capable? Let me know.

I would throw out tacomas quite yet. The 4.0 v6 in the new ones knocks out our old 3.4s. As far as full size, f150 or maybe one of the later 1st gen tundras.

Yeah, agreed....but the newer Taco's are too much $$ too. I need to keep it around $12k-$14k max. Maybe by the spring of 2013 they'll be cheaper.

I thought an older Titan would be perfect...but it seems that they like to eat differentials and leak lots of oil from every seal they have. lol

I had 3 Nissan Titans. A 2004, 2006, and 2008.. Never had a problem with any of the 3. Only reason I sold my last one, the 2008, was because I wanted full time 4WD for the roads of North Dakota in the winter.

They are a great truck with one hell of an engine.

I say to keep the Tacoma's in your mind too. 2013 isn't far away, but it is at the same time. Who knows what the prices will be then.

I know people 'say' that F150's aren't reliable. When I hear that, I challenge them (even the ones with Toyotas) to list the problems their vehicles have had.

My F150 just turned over 147K; and here's the list of problems it has had:

- driver's side mirror was loose - replaced
- right rear brake light busted

And, uh, that's it.

I say if you want to stay with Toyota then a 4.0 v6 Tacoma would be great and if your not satisfied with the power, then bolt a supercharger on it, there's videos on youtube of S/C Tacoma's doing 0-60 in 5secs! Or the first gen Tundra with a V8 can be pretty slick looking if there done up right.

If your looking else where than Toyota, I would get a Ford. Not that i'm a huge fan of them but I would stand behind a Ford before a Chevy and way before a Dodge!

You may be able to pick up a 2nd gen Taco for that price, depending on how long you can go without a replacement vehicle. If you can have the money in the bank to jump on a good deal when you see it then that'd be an ideal situation. I did that for my last Taco, a 2005 I picked up for $10K. Paint was a bit scratched and high mileage (165K miles) but I still trusted that more than any domestic for the same price. (Sold a year later for $13,500).

The v6 has lots of power, and size-wise they're pretty big. I had mine parked besides my dad's 98 c/k GMC. Mine an Access Cab, dad's an extended cab short box, they were nearly the same size. The only real difference was in the width of the trucks.

Next, I'm with TRDcal, Ford would be next on the shopping list, then maybe GM, never would consider a Dodge.

Get a new Tundra if you can, I can't say enough good things about this truck. My dad has one and I hate getting back into my 4runner after driving it. It does a lot of work but still had nut (to say the least). It's a fun truck that means business. I have never been able to be so fond of a pick up before.

By comparison, the rest of the competitive isn't great. I don't love the Tundra's interior but I'm sure there are others that are nicer. Regardless, if I had to go to truck route, let alone pick up or not I'd be all over the Tundra.

I wouldn't bother with the Taco. I guess if you need a smaller pick up they are okay but I don't love the look of them. They're okay to drive but eh, sort of bland.

I do love the Ram, though. I always have and always will unless they ruin it somehow. By the sounds of it, they are only getting better and more tough. Only reason my dad didn't get a Ram was because there were none around for what he wanted to spend, that were the newest year. I would love to be able to upgrade to one, maybe one day.

Interesting. Right now, Titan's, F-150's and 01-04 Dakota quad cab's (with the 4.7) are on my radar.
