***SOLVED***

Hello all,

Is anyone else having problems after the latest iOS update, 13.2?

I've read about other model years and trim levels having this issue in years past and was always thankful I wasn't in their place.

After the iOS update yesterday, my head unit rebooted before I even left the driveway this morning. It then proceeded to reboot about 7 times on my drive in to work.

The longest it went before rebooting again was maybe 2-3 minutes.

Has anyone else had this happen today?

Thanks,
Jason

Mine was happening with 13.1 on my 2016 TE.

Troubleshooting tracked it down to bluetooth. Remove all phone settings and set it up again with NO CONTACTS OR MESSAGES SYNC. It solved my rebooting.

JBL Premium Head Unit Constantly Rebooting ***SOLVED***

Found this on Tundras. com, posted by WNY PAT | Toyota Tundra Forum and it ABSOLUTELY WORKS!!!

FIXED LAST NIGHT:

Went to the Apple Store Genius Bar and told the guy what was happening. He came out to my truck and fixed it in less than 5 minutes. You must be running the latest iOS. First, forget the 4Runner from the iPhone Bluetooth settings. You must also remove the iPhone from the 4Runner radio so there are no phones paired. You must turn off the Bluetooth on the iPhone until the last step. Here’s what he did to the phone:

Before starting any of this, back up your phone to your iCloud account and/or your PC / MAC via iTunes...

1. Uninstall Apple Music app.
2. Reset network settings.
3. Sign out of your iTunes account on your iPhone.
4. Restart the iPhone.
5. Sign in to iTunes account on iPhone again.
6. Reinstall the Apple Music app.
7. Open the Apple Music app, select songs, then select shuffle and let it begin playing the music on the iPhone first to be sure it’s working properly.
8. Pair the phone with the truck again (turn Bluetooth on, go to audio screen and select add).

I did this last night and drove the truck for about 15 min... Today, no issues... Music and iPhone / calls working fine. Also jumped in my wife's 2015 T4R LE and played a couple songs... No more rebooting on that radio either. Hope this works for you guys too! Good luck!!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for sharing, can you check if, when on bluetooth audio mode in the car, if there is nothing playing and you adjust volume if apple music starts playing the song?
Also if the song is paused and you adjust the volume does it start playing?

My issue is, I am listening to a radio streaming app via bluetooth and if I adjust the volume in the car, radio pauses and apple music kicks in.

I am curious if this would fix the problem for me as well. Has to be the iphone, never happened on android.

I don't typically listen to radio (AM / FM) and nearly always use Bluetooth connectivity while underway.

While my iPhone 11 (latest iOS, 13.2.3) is paused via steering wheel control or the touchscreen, if volume is adjusted up or down, playback resumes.

I guess I'd sum it up this way... If you're experiencing continual head unit reboot and dropped phone connectivity via Bluetooth (including calls), that is what I experienced, and the steps outlined in my post resolved my issue completely. It's now some time later, and the issue has not returned.

Thanks, i was having issues with bluetooth disconnecting during calls in addition to the playback resuming when volume is adjusted. I went through the steps and playback is still resuming however the one call I had did not drop so I think this fixed it. I am on 13.1 ios and do not want to update just yet to 13.2 due to some other issues reported not related to bluetooth

When you say "apple music app" you mean the app that my music is stored in right? Like purchases for albums etc.

Just want to be clear:hatsoff:

Thanks

Thanks for this simple fix. Here, I thought it was the head unit gone bad. Glad to see that the Entune system hardware is still solid.

Yes, the app called "Music" that is an Apple app, that all your music is in.

If you're backed up to iCloud, it will repopulate.

Head Unit Reboot

I have a 2019 SR5 with nav. After 2 months of ownership, the head unit went through a constant reboot. Brought it to the dealer and they replaced the head unit since it had the latest software update and they determined that the head unit was the problem (not so sure about that). After the new head unit was installed, I got the same problem a few times. Looking up some issues, I found that I could enter my phone in Bluetooth but DO NOT sync your contacts. Now I don't have the problem; crossing my fingers so far. Under Settings, go to Bluetooth. Pull up your TOYOTA 4Runner and tap on the blue info button. Under that you will see Show Notifications and Sync Contacts. Make sure they are both turned off and that is what fixed mine. I love the vehicle but cannot believe that I can't sync contacts in to get it to work. No recall yet and this is an old problem.

Others have indicated this has worked for them... For me, not syncing contacts was never an option.. I wanted the OEM head unit to work like it did before the iOS update.

The steps I've listed have restored ALL functionality... repeat, ALL functionality.

The dealership wanted to replace my head unit as well... This would have been at least a day or two at the dealer, my dash pulled apart, put back together, and who knows if I'm getting a new head unit or a "like new" refurbished unit... no thanks.

My Google-fu found the solution... No time spent at the dealership... This was an iOS issue, plain and simple. As I write this, we're on 13.3.

If you're are experiencing repeated Bluetooth connectivity issues with calls, music, head unit reboots... try these free steps first. You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

The issue isn't iPhone model specific either

I just wanted to add that I started experiencing this issue after the iOS 13 update like others with my iPhone 8 at the time. The fix for a while was just not to program the speed dial buttons on the home screen and that seemed to work. Once I upgraded to iPhone 11, the only fix seems to be not syncing contacts and turning off notifications.

Dealer was no help. There is no head unit update for my 2019 4Runner TRD Off Road. They reflashed it which did nothing. I even tried installing the Entune app on my phone which did do a mandatory radio update the first time I connected it. Did nothing. I also went through the Apple Genius bar procedure and that also did not help.

This is my 4th 4Runner so suffice to say I love 4Runners. But, c'mon Toyota. My phone works great paired in one of my kids' 12 year old Hondas.

Did you try this though?

If so, did it work for you?

Today I went to Luther Toyota for this constant rebooting problem, the Service Advisor was able to identify my iPhone 8 as the problem. He performed a HU software upgrade but no success, once my phone paired to BT then instant reset. He paired his iPhone 11 and no problem, once my iPhone paired, again reset. I have iOS 13.3. He suggested a factory reset on the phone first which is free, next option is a new iPhone because it is cheaper than a new HU. Before I did the factory reset on my iPhone I Googled and found this thread. I did the steps at noon today and all is good (so far). Once again you all are great, thank you.

Thanks, This is the solve for all but 2020 4Runners! However if your updated Head unit doesn't work try this.

I'm having this issue with my 2016 TE, I updated the SW last May already and the problem is getting worst by the day, now it reboots every few minutes several times during a typical drive. I tried updating to an old update that claimed to solve this issue but the head unit won't allow updating to an older software that's already installed.

I'm trying to follow these instructions but don't know where to perform this step:
2. Reset network settings.
Can find this anywhere on the iPhone 8, or on the Head unit settings menu.
Where is this exactly?

Thanks
