Some Toyota odometers "designed" to stop working at 299,999 miles?

First I've heard of this.

If that's accurate, it's bullshit, and disappointing. Why would you design an odometer to fail at 299,999 (especially on a Toyota!), and if you didn't design it that way, why wouldn't you notify your customers of the extended warranty to fix it so that they'll stay your customers?

Surely looks like Toyota did send out letters??!!

It says nothing about a certain mileage, just "high mileage".

The reporters should do some fact checking first before spewing false information..
