Somewhat new member need help with high idle

First I would to say that this forum rocks and is a gift for the DIYers. I purchased my first 4runner about a year ago and have never looked back. 5 months ago I have a tire shop tell me I had a blown rear seal and of course I came here to find info on it so decided to do the Tundra upgrade while I was at it.

Ok here is my issue, I pulled my throttle body and MAF today and cleaned them, also pulled the EFI fuse before I started. Everything went smooth but after I started it up and it got to temp the idle stayed at 1700 rpm in park and only came down to 1100 rmp in drive. I rechecked my hosed and also my cables and everything seemed ok. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

OKAY first off i am assuming everything was fine before the maf/tb cleaning?

If so I bet you had the same problem as I did. I found that my tb had a ever so slightly warped butterfly valve. and after removing the carbon in the tb it would no longer seal up right.

To check if your having my problem, start your truck, open the hood, and manually rev up the engine from the tb and slam it shut and KEEP ALOT OF PRESSURE ON IT. If your idle is magically normal its time to go to pick a part and get a new tb.

I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND CLEANING THE TB AFTER ALL THE ISSUES IT GAVE ME

its such a small difference you cannot see it, the only way i found out was by closing it super hard

To the contrary, i have had great success cleaning the TB on 2 cars now, it solved my hesistation problem.

UPDATE
Toyota didn't have a new gasket in stock, but O'Reillys happen to to have 1. bought it and since know one had the O gasket including toyota who told me they did not make one outside of a kit I altered the D gasket to the O gasket and know everything is super!:bravo:

Huh, I've never really heard of anyone having problems with their TB after cleaning until you Jason. I've cleaned mine like 5 times over the years, but Jason ain't no dummy so the OP may have that same issue. Did you bend the butterfly with your big 'ol stumpy fingers? lol. I have had high idle after cleaning, but I just pulled the - battery cable off for 45 minutes and reset the computer. It re-learned the whatever it is ECUs "learn" and it idled fine after a few minutes.

Well my idear for the issue was after years of use the butterfly valve gets slightly warped. And the build up of carbon allows it to still seal right. Once you clean the carbon off it no lover closes all the way thus raising the idle... Maybe I'm the only one lol

Well i know on my 98 5vzfe i cleaned it when i first got it which was last year in Feb. and i had no problem at all. I will say i did clean it at the Toyota Dealer i work at and We use a BG Product. I noticed a really big difference after cleaning. the BG Part# is 2901 if anywants to try it you may have to have it done at a Dealer because you need this 400 dollar tool to inject it striaght into the TB. Its does a he** of a job. mine had about 1/4 of carbon built on it and it looks brand new after words. With this you dont need to take anything but the air intake hose off. Its works like nothing else ive used.
