Southern Style Offroad Full Length Roof Rack

Im just realizing its been over 3 years since I installed this rack and started the thread.

My long term experience has been a good one. The truck now has over 100,000 miles, and around 75000 since the rack was installed. Many of these miles have been on rough offroad trails, including multiple trips through The Georgia Traverse, and a 6800 mile trip I made last year that included most of The Enchanted Rockies Trail. I retired the truck from daily use last year, and the RTT now stays mounted 100% of the time. A few things about the rack...

- The powdercoated windfairing and side rails have held up excellent. No chips or peeling at all.

- The initial install of the tent was tough due to the low profile rack, but from there on I left two cross bars bolted to the tent and lifted them out as one unit when moving the tent on and off. This worked very well. I can remove the tent or install it in about 20 minutes.

- No bending or sagging on any of the crossbars. I physically climb on top of the rack to manage the straps and cover on the tent. The bars have held up well to this.

-I followed their instructions and used the provided sealant and have not had any issues with leaks or rust etc.

- The modular design has made this a pleasure when adding things like antenna brackets or awnings etc.

- If I had a complaint it would only be with the allen head screws that hold the crossbars on. Some loosened up after the initial install. Ive used blue thread lock since then...which may have contributed to the fact that I have stripped the heads on a handfull of the bolts over the years. I do use a 1/4” impact tool to remove and install which also contributes to stripping.

A trick to remove a stripped allen is to use a hammer to tap a tight fitting torx bit into it and get it out. I also...once... had to use a bolt extractor, but the screw came right out.

All in all the rack has held up well and my experience with it and the folks at SSO has sewn me in as a customer with them.

It always feels great to hear the durability and longevity of our roof rack, exactly how it was designed to be. Seeing how you have put it through the riggers just go to show you that it should last you for years to come. We can't wait to see where else you journey will take you.

After an hour of searching, my lizard brain is lost.

Has anyone installed a (Heiser 40”) light bar on the SSO rack?

I have the rack installed, the fairing with the cutout, light bar and the mounting kit…but cannot get the mounts to work.

Any pictures or advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Here is what I got and I think I am missing a piece per blurry photos I can find online: Imgur: The magic of the Internet
