Speedometer off on long trips

Sounds more like an issue starting with the instrument cluster. The wheel speed sensor gives out a pulsed signal so when stopped, even if it was malfunctioning it would have to fail in a way to produce a pulsed signal. Then all 4 wheel sensors would need to match close enough for the computer to not trip a code for difference in signal/speed out of bounds.

Have you ever heard of a place that could repair the speedometer. I see some used ones on ebay but they could have the same problem and the mileage would be off. I only have 71k miles on mine and would hate to put one in with more mileage.

As was stated before the Dealership does not actually have the means to do anything other than replace the instrument cluster and possibly reprogram the firmware. The mileage and calibration has to be done by a specialty shop; though honestly I don't know of too many physical shops that do this.

We have a guy who actually rebuilds instrument clusters and reprograms them and such, but he does not take on private clients; he strictly deals in shops and dealerships.

Could you theoretically send him one from "a shop customer" to help this guy get his speedo fixed?

We haven't dealt with the guy lately as he's been busy and scaling back on the IC repairs (his bread and butter is mobile diagnostic work and some other stuff.) Unfortunately he usually likes to actually have the physical vehicle to test the cluster in as well.

I checked google and I can't seem to find people who do anything but GM clusters (lot of money there...) so I can't even recommend online websites...

I only do lighting. Done some diagnostic but I don't like messing with this crap. It's tedious and annoying

Well then if a dealership cannot reprogram or calibrate I would suggest contacting an instrument calibration shop. I have one here local that I think would do it, maybe the OP or other people with similar problems can pursue this.

I'll probably hit up the dealer one of these days and see what they say. Not in a big hurry because this sounds like it might be an expensive goose chase.

Btw, this is happening in town too. I get home from my cross-town 4 mile commute and the speedo reads about 5 mph. It resets by morning.

I'll report back if I find out something meaningful.

Did you end up finding a resolution to this problem? Or does anyone else know a solution?

This just started happening on mine. Strange thing is the speedo was doing the little bounce at startup then not working at all about a month ago. I ordered a new speedo servo to replace in the cluster (as has been suggested on here), but after pulling the cluster and reinstalling it before swapping the servo, the speedo started working again. I'm wondering if the issue is still the servo and wanted to see if anyone else found this to be the fix.

Bumping this as my 05' is experiencing the same issues as others here. Has anyone figured out how to fix this issue?

I've replaced all 4 wheels sensors and the issues seem to persist randomly.
