Sport trailer vs Roof box vs ??

Hey all,

In my previous life in South Africa, I enjoyed the use of a compact "sport" trailer made by Venter. Awesome piece of simplistic genius that hooked on the hitch of a car/truck and made life hassle free when it came to pack/unpacking of goods.

I am struggling to find anything close to similar design here in the US...aside from the FUGLY u-Haul spiort trailer that is...:-(

I am planning a 4k miles 3 week road trip with my wife and 2 other friends. I dont want to over-pack the 4runner in the cargo bay, but would rather put a cooler box and other necessities in there, and keep it de-cluttered.

Clothes, hiking gear etc - would then go into this trail that i just hook up to my hitch. OR maybe get a THULE roof Box, and pack everything in there.?

Any opinions / advice etc??

Ideally, i would like to rent something.

Most likely people use either roof basket systems like Gobi with a fabric bag strapped in or Thule roof carriers. I have a carrier myself for holiday trips when dogs are in the back. If you get the large one it holds a good amount of stuff. It cost me about $500 I think. There are other brands that are cheaper too if price is a concern.
