Squeak from rear wheel area

Any thoughts as to what may be causing this squeak on my rear wheel?

Sounds spring-like.. would like to avoid taking apart the e-brake assemble if at all possible.

Also seems to be pretty consistent and making a squeak around the same section of each rotation.

Is something rubbing the adjuster star wheel? I would take the assy apart and have a look. It should be easy to locate because of the wear marks but I'm guessing the star wheel. These shoes are not self adjusting.

You already have it open. I'd go ahead and replace the shoes and adjust them. I never have liked working on shoe brakes. They're a real pain but you'll have to do it sooner or later.

I'm old enough to well remember doing brake shoes on all 4 wheels. (There used to be a core deposit on the shoes.) I remember if you rode the brakes too much (long downhill stretch) you had plenty of pedal but no stopping (really bad coming out of the mountains).

Self adjusting brake shoes were an improvement and then disc brakes made a world of difference. It was a much easier process.

I don't envy you working on them but our 99 Sienna has rear brake shoes so I still get that treat once in a while. I should have bought the spring pliers to make it easier but I've stuck with the screwdriver prying method.

I've got a squeak from mine as well. Pretty sure it's coming from the parking brake. I made a big oopsy when doing my rear brake disks a few months back and pried them off without backing off the parking brake adjuster. Listening to headphones and didn't realize the carnage taking place internally, lol.

Ended up rebuilding them with new springs and hardware but retained my stock shoes. For some reason I'm getting a rotational squeak under 20mph, but only when the truck has been driven for a while on the highway, I'm assuming when everything is nice and warm. It's definitely not the shields from what I can tell.

I'll be interested to see what fixes yours because I'm thinking I have a very slight contact somewhere in the system
