I have an '06 4-runner sr5. The brakes started squeaking so i replaced the pads on the front. They are still squeaking. Can someone give me ideas on what else to check? Fyi rotors were good fluid is good. Rear brakes are still in good shape too.

What kind of pads did you use? Some brands and compounds squeak more than others. Also, did you put the shims in or use any disc brake quiet on the back of the pads?

Edit: I also wanted to mention- I have Toyota pads on the front and they squeak a little bit on cold/humid mornings for a few stops.

squeaky brakes dont necessarily mean they need replaced.

generally squeaking WHILE braking is a pad/rotor/shim/contaminate etc issue. they arent squeaking due to being worn. and usually a non issue, as far as safety is concerned.

squeaking all the time, while NOT braking is generally a sign of worn pads.

if you change pads, without doing something with the rotors, you are just begging for problems. whether it be squeaks, pulsation, pulling whatever.
atleast the rotors need buffed out, but preferably to be resurfaced, to give the new FLAT pads a nice parallel surface to bed against. and it also removes the old embedded friction material.

thanks alot for the help. i will try the disc brake quiet on the back to see if that helps. i did use the shims as well. i will let you know if any of this works. thanks again.
