SR5 premium vs limited

We are in the market for a SUV and I am inclined to buy a 4runner. However, our local dealer has none. I have a couple of questions regarding SRS premium and limited and hopefully have a better idea before driving to twin cities dealers.

1) backup camera. I read somewhere that the images for backing up on SR5 utilize mirror instead of entune screen. is this true or SR5 premium is different?

2) Is Sof-tex in SR5 premium fabric or synthetic leather? If it is fabric, how durable or good they are?

3) Entune screen is 6.1 inch. Anyone feels it is too microscopic?

4) If anyone has bought recently, what is your purchased price for 2014 or 2015 in the midwest?

Answers to your questions:

On a SR5 Premium the back-up camera is displayed through the entune screen just as with limited.

Sof-tex is a synthetic leather. I have only had my 4Runner for 3 months so too early to comment on durability but I do like them so far as they seem really easy to maintain and clean them.

3) Entune screen is 6.1 inch. Anyone feels it is too microscopic?

I do not have any issues with the screen size.

4) If anyone has bought recently, what is your purchased price for 2014 or 2015 in the midwest?

I purchased my SR5 Premium back in June with a few extras (cargo cross bars, rear cargo cover, front window tint) for $35,338.
 
This is still great for a 2015 and hundreds below the invoice. Which dealer did you purchase from? Thanks!

isnt that syntex just a fancy name for Vinyl?

42 seems high. i was looking at limiteds as well and saw several dealers selling 14 limiteds high 39k.

whatever you choose best of luck to you. remember to go to the dealer on a sunday -tuesday night, a couple of hours before closing and you'll get the best deal you are going to get.
 
I don't feel like 42k was a crazy good deal but since some are reporting MSRP on 2015 I think it's fair. It does have the 3rd row that's $1,365 and the mats @ $225.
 
I ended up with a 2014 Limited. I liked the real leather, bumper sensors, dual a/c, etc.. We tested the Syntex and Real Leather in the hot Texas sun and found the Syntex retained heat a lot more. Also helped that the Limited has ventilated seats too..

First off, if you are member of Costco, you can get $250 under invoice. That's a starting point. Other memberships offer similar deals so I'd check around.

Most deals I saw where about 3k under MRSP. Mine was about 5k under (not including TTL or trade in). Two modifying factors though.

  • I did trade in my 03 so I'm sure they'll make money there.
  • We have a really good credit score and I let them finance me. (They'll bundle my app to balance other apps with not so good credit and sell it so they'll make money there).

Just remember that EVERY part of the car buying experience is negotiable.

On the backup camera didn't test drive sr5 but the pic qualiy on navi units were clear but wish it was adaptive like the 2013 accords. U turn the wheel the guide turns as we'll..

On the syntex leather I was iffy on it when I sat in them. I think the two-tone one I kept seeing were not my thing

If you can swing a limited at a good price go for it.....
Was looking at 2104 trail edition but ended up with 2015 limited...
Paid 39150 plus ttl under 42k with boards, mats , cargo and paint protection thingy

Used costco auto and truecar for baseline research.
Got my costco coupon to on 50% up to 200 off accessories after purchase

Don't be afraid to walkout and research more for price u feel comfortable with...
U don't need to buy that car that day but they want u too... So u have the leverage....
 
Thanks for the response. I called/emailed some dealers and the prices seemed to a little bit high. I guess the demand is great (few have limited with 3rd row). Some would not give me the "best" price unless I come in. Aww... I will check the costco auto.

One dealer said there is 30th Anniversary Discount this month? Is it something real or just marketing gimme?
 
When we priced a 2014 the -1,000 discount was on the quote.... They said it was only for 2014 but when they found a 2015 with the 3rd row the -1,000 was still on the quote.
 
I was tr by my deals when I ordered a couple weeks ago that the 30th discount would go till dec 31st then the window stickers would be changed.

its because the discount is based on the calendar year (2014 being the 30yrs anniversary) not the model year.
 
4300 off a sr5 premium with 1.9 financing through southeast toyota. limiteds are a dime a dozen around here...there were only about 20 sr5 prem's on the ground in the whole state.

Everyone else has answered your questions, just trying to help you get a good price point.

You didn't ask, but since you're in MN., I assume you are probably considering a 4wd 4Runner. If that's the case, and you aren't already aware, the SR5 has a Part-Time 4wd system, whereas the Limited is Full-Time 4WD.

Forgive my ignorance and a slight thread hijack, but I've never had a 4WD vehicle so I hope you/someone can clear that up for me. P/T 4WD, does that mean it's normally 2WD and the driver selects 4WD when needed, whereas full-time means just that? (i.e. always engaged)

We've been looking at Premiums, but wondering if there's added benefit or value of looking at a Limited, other than the obvious package upgrades.

yes limiteds are essentially all wheel drive with a center differential that allows you to be in 4wd mode on dry pavement ( a no no for part time 4wd like the sr5) and then you can select low or high 4wd drive just like the sr5

being essentially AWD it reduces how much you have to manage the state your drivetrain is in, if the weather turns or you go from dry pavement to icy pavement you don't have to do anything. with part time 4wd you have to manage it a bit more. if theings get really ugly then you can shift to high or low locked 4wd just like you can in the sr5
 
Part Time - You can disconnect the front wheels. Less wear and tear on the front drivetrain. Better fuel economy. (1 mpg on the 4R)

AWD - All wheels all the time with a center open diff. Better if you don't want to manage when you are in and out (better for my wife). More wear and tear on drivetrain, worse mpg.

On my FJ Cruiser the one thing I won't miss after selling it is when you are in 2H (rear wheels only) and turn into traffic on a wet of icy road the traction control kicks in and you just sit there with the engine roaring but not going anywhere.
