Staying Warm Overnight in my 4Runner

I was wondering if any of you all had any experience with running some sort of heater in your cars overnight. Or if there is any other solutions for staying warm while sleeping in your 4Runners.

A good sleeping bag and some extra blankets. Maybe some of those glove warmers for the feet. I wouldn't run a heater inside the car.
 
You'll need to leave a window cracked if you use a fuel burning heater so you don't risk asphyxiation. Otherwise, I think a good sleeping bag and something to lay on are about the only thing I can think of.
 
I like the Mr. Buddy heater. Crack a window and you'll be toasty with it on low. Tip sensor and low O2 sensor so it's safe.
 
One of those tin covered heat shield blankets. Never used one, but they are made for survival. So you should survive lol
 
I wouldn't run a heater inside the car.

Military sleeping bag with all 3 parts good to -22F, a whoobie, 3 inch memory foam on the floor since metal gets cold, crack the window as just you breath as a human let off Co2.

Oh and the portable never needs fuel or electric and constantly stays the same temperature german shepherd

^ This. If it gets stupid-cold you can run the engine for a couple minutes and blow some heat into the rig, but a sleeping bag appropriate for the temp is what you need.

If you do choose to run a portable heater, a Mr Heater Buddy or similar is the best, but crack a window and put the heater in the front seat footwell so it's lower than your head and you won't risk kicking it over in the middle of the night.
 
I stayed in my 4runner a couple months ago in the desert out in Arizona. It got down to 18 degrees one night. I had a foam pad, a good sleeping bag and an extra warm comforter and was fine. The windows iced up real good by morning. But I was mostly comfortable. Biggest thing is keep your head and feet warm. I cant wait for camping weather here in Michigan again!! My boy is old enough now that he likes camping. As long as there is a fire and some sticks for him to mess with he's a good 4 year old camper. Gotta start them young.
 
How cold are we talking?
Close to freezing, a good camping air mattress + thermal shirt/pants + a beanie will get you pretty comfy with a good sleeping bag. Bring another blanket/quilt if you're not sure.
 
I sleep in my 4Runner when I go hunting and temperature goes down to the low 20's. I used a suv air mattress and a good mummy sleeping bag and it's comfortable. No heater is needed.
 
Hmmm.... I wonder, if you had a good, independent 12v or 24v marine battery and you took a few 12v seat heaters and put them in some sort of camping pad, how long would that battery last? If you kept the heater setting on low and just enough to take the edge off the chill, I wonder how many hours off heat you could get out of it.:confused::loco:

Probably not long enough. What's the amp draw on your seat heater and the amp-hours on your battery?

This is all hypothetical. It's just an idea that popped into my head. Avg marine battery is 50-75Ah. I have no idea what a seat heater would pull on a low setting, but you would want two I think . Maybe one at your core and one near your feet?
