Stealership or Broker?

Really annoyed with the hoops California dealerships are putting me through and the games they are playing just to try and purchase a new car! Fully pre-qualified simple deal with more than 75% down and no trade-in and I get treated like they are doing me a favor and I should genuflect in thankfulness.

I have found a new 2018 TRDORP with 24 miles on it at a broker in Arizona. Pleasant, no hassle dealing with them so far and a better price. They claim that there is no difference between buying a new Toyota from them versus buying directly from a dealership - all warranties the same etc.

What should I be aware of? Has anyone bought from a brokerage before? Did everything go as planned or were there issues with doing so? I would have to fly to Phoenix to make the deal and need to know if there are any problems with buying from a broker before I spend the airfare!

Thanks! Tryiing really hard to join the club!!!!

No idea on the broker question but they did not get it for free so I am wondering how they price it better than a dealer. Since you said you would travel I would send an email blast to 30-40 dealers and see what you get back. When I lived in Austin I bought two vehicles in Dallas and one in Houston to avoid the local dealers. You also may see if you can use the Costco membership or check and see if your company has an agreement with Toyota. I got my 4Runner through my company relationship with Toyota and got a very good price that way.

I initially tried going through a broker through my credit union and I didn’t think the price was that great. I ended up going to a dealership and negotiated for my self and saved probably $2k more and then even successfully negotiated after that, that I didn’t want the shit Toyota floor mats. Over the next couple weeks due to the dealerships incompetence of not doing what they agreed to and not getting me my vehickle in time I saved another $500. Little headache but money is money.
They didn’t like me in the end, but like Trump says it’s just business.

When I bought my 2013 I quickly got tired of the floor monkey sales reps who jump you as you approach. I left a few dealerships due to this or their lack of willingness to get the model or color I wanted. They tried to sell what they had in stock or charge way too much to get one from another nearby dealer.

I had much better results working with an internet or fleet sales rep. That took a lot of the crap out of the deal.

Costco and others route you to the fleet sales reps, I found mine by doing an internet request for a quote, then went in to work with them.

I was able to get 5.6% off the MSRP on my Trail.

There are a lot of dealers out there, don't put up with their crap, find a dealer that is easy to work with.

I did walk out on a few as they were still talking and they followed me for a bit. Irritating at the time, kind of funny later.

+1 I was going to suggest the same

There's so much demand for the 4Runner in SoCal that most/all dealerships don't include it in their discount programs.

To OP, shouldn't the broker simply be handling the search and negotiation end of the deal? Essentially, they should be a buyer's agent rather than acting as a sell themselves. I'd be a little wary of a broker that was trying to deal "new" cars from their own inventory.

I have a friend that's a broker in Los Angeles. The cheapest he could get me in an SR5 was 37,5. I was able to negotiate mine for 35k. Didn't work out for the 4runner but we bought my wife's car with the broker. 48k Lexus NX for 36k. So they do work but it's really hard to get dealerships to budge on 4runner's because they know that it'll eventually sell. Good luck!

Working with AAA now and have had a great experience. Looks like I'll be flying out to get my new vehicle this coming Tues. Couldn't get docs signed and back/forth fast enough to go tomorrow. Nobody uses DocuSign or similar - flippin stone age!

I use a broker. I have for the past 5 vehicles I purchased. The process has always been positive and easy... too easy that I buy/trade my cars too often.

Back in December 2015, I decided I wanted to purchase a 2016 4Runner Trail Edition Premium with KDSS in White or Silver. I looked all over Denver and surrounding states. I was not able to find one anywhere. I talked to dealers, but they wouldn't order me one, they kept trying to sell me what they had. I looked at used, but the used prices were insane. So I called my broker and he got on it. He calls his Toyota allotment rep (who works for Toyota) and said there were no new units available within any reasonable distance. However, one Silver TEP just arrived in port and is not allocated yet. I was able to put my name on it and have it in 4-6 weeks after it gets through customs and such. I believe I got it for just under sticker. The broker gave me a good price on trade-in as well (2012 Nissan Titan).

When the 4runner was delivered. It was delivered to the local Toyota dealership. They do the PDI (pre-delivery inspection) and then was delivered to the broker. The broker has an on-site window tinter. So when I picked it up, the front windows were tinted and clear bra was installed. When you are looking for a vehicle and it is in stock, the broker will pull from dealer stock). All warranties are valid. There is no difference in anything between a broker and dealership.

Overall...all my experiences with an autobroker have been great! I would highly recommend them. They have greater ability to sell your trade as they are not associated with one manufacture and they have a vast selection of resources.

Move out of California? IQ goes up

Come back to them with the best deal from any dealership. My dealer in Denver price matched a dealer in Baltimore

I also used AAA when I bought mine in 2011. Got a Trail for $32.5K, I wish I would have bought 2 of them. Looking at the prices now, I should have.

"Hello! I think I can give you some advice. I, as an avid casino player, have played in many similar establishments during my career and already have some experience and understanding of which casinos are truly benchmark, and which ones will simply deprive you of money.
I have personally tested each of them and I can confidently say that they are best suited to play on them on a consistent basis.

oh boy!!!! do tell!

I know this is an old thread that a spam bot brought back, but if you are ever in the situation that OP is don't tell them that you are planning on paying cash or putting a lot of money down.

dealerships want to sell you financing and they want you to finance the full value. if you are paying cash or have your own financing, let them think you will use their financing until after the negotiation is done

ha! this one. I don't know why people run into the dealer proclaiming I got cash! No way. You prob even get a better deal doing 100% financing. If you don't mind a temp hit to your FICO, finance the thing then pay it off if you must. Hell, keep the 2% financing, and throw your cash in the stock market or if you got the balls, into Ether/Doge/BTC or whatever.

One of my friends moved into a new house last week. He found very hard the suitable house, because they have a big family, and they needed something big and cozy. He was looking for months to find the right place. Until I recommended him to ask for help at Mortgage Broker Sunderland. They are the best company specialized in this sphere. They also helped me finding the right place, where I can live my entire life with my family. The prices are very low, and they are very good in what they do. I trust them, that`s why I recommend it to everyone.
