Steering wheel adjustment??

in my 1998 4runner the steering wheel has turned when the wheels are straight instead of the wheel being straight, it is turned at an angle to the left or the right the wheel is NEVER straight its always angled I don't think its an alignment issue cause it drives good and straight. It wasn't before when I first got it about a month and a half ago can I adjust it? my old truck (a jeep grand Cherokee) this happened and you can take a wrench and turn it till its back to normal if you can do this where do I need to adjust it what do I uses and how? This is driving me crazy. thanks guys!

Well, unlike your Chero, this Yota has a rack and pinion steering system. On the jeep, you simply had to adjust the sleeve on the drag link to turn the steering wheel one direction or the other.

I have not yet had the need to adjust the R&P on my 4Runner and since this is the first vehicle that I have owned that has had a rack and pinion steering setup, I cant offer much advice on the specific procedure.

My 98 had the crooked steering wheel from excessive offroad use. I took it in the alignment shop and they adjusted something down there and got it straight. Sorry I wasn't paying attention to it as I had some other issues to take care of while the car was in the shop about 5yrs ago. All I know is they centered the steering wheel and put this weird look jack thing under it to keep it straight from the inside of the interior and they went down there and made adjustments.

My 02 is very crooked and thats causing the VSC to kick on going at freeway speeds around curves because of the sensor in the steering column sees the steering wheel turned and the car going extremely fast for the "turn."

I gotta change my inner tie rod in the weekend so I'll figure it out and post some info on how to straighten it..
