Steering Wheel Swap?

I was wondering if it would be possible to swap a steering wheel that doesnt have the radio controls with a steering wheel that does. Ive been looking all over the place, but i cant seem to find any of the stuff i need to do it. I know im going to have to replace the airbag as well, does anybody know of anyone parting out a 4runner that i could purchase this from. Thanks in advance.

Yes its possible, the parts say an 03-04 won't fit an 05-09, but I replaced mine with a newer version and it bolted up just fine. You shouldn't need to replace the airbag since those are the same, you really don't even have to replace the steering wheel to be honest.

You can purchase the radio buttons and harness and simply replace the blank plates that you have and wire it up. Im not sure how easy it is to wire them up but I know there are threads that cover that stuff. I would just buy the buttons and harness and go from there, hope that helps-

Lots of others too, but I haven't seen anyone who has completed the mod and reported back. Would be interesting. There's a writeup on Tundrasolutions.com, but I doubt the schematics are the same.

I'm currently looking into it because I desperately want them as well. Anyway, here are some preliminary cost estimates, I don't have the part numbers:

Airbag with cutouts for audio controls: $505.52
Left hand audio controls: $67.39
Right hand blank control: $14.83 (not sure about this one)
Leather steering wheel (optional): $100 (if you can find a nice used one on eBay) to $600 if you want to order a new one.

I bought a leather/wood steering wheel recently, so I've just been waiting to find out about the wiring before I go ahead an order the parts to add the both the audio controls and my new steering wheel in.

EDIT: I checked my stereo and it looks like it's already prewired for the steering wheel audio controls. The R5 connector is in place and has the 3 wires corresponding to the audio controls. I guess Toyota thinks it's more cost effective to include the wiring on all 4Runners since the majority of them are equipped with the audio controls.
