still looking for a roof rack

hey everyone- to make a long story short, im looking for a low profile roof rack for my 4th gen...i was oh so close to delivery of my WM rack before he was forced out of business (not going there)...anyways, can anyone point me in the right direction for my next best option for a (custom?)low profile full length rack, preferably w mesh floor and sunroof cutout?? i contacted BajaRack and they said they only offer 1 style for the 4th gens, a basket style rack- not sure exactly what that would exactly be but options are limited

im looking for a high quality small biz company who can fab up what i need

any ideas?? thanks in advance

truckhigh- thats looks like a possibility, never heard if them..are they pretty good?? i like giving biz to small fab shops but i want a product w good fit-n-finish..need it to bolt right up and last

I don't have it but search t4r and toyota120. The aluminum will not rust and saves some weight. it just depends on your needs . how much weight you put on it and what accessories you need. if it fits that bill then message somebody who has it about wind noise. i don't believe it will be a problem because fit is so close to the body with a integrated fairing
 
I might be selling my Gobi Stealth Rack. I have the removable sunroof mount too. I had it custom made to accommodate a 40" LED light bar in the front.

Contact me if interested. Have to be local to SoCal.

I dunno man, I've gotta respectfully disagree. I work in the automotive aftermarket (totally unrelated to offroad stuff) and people always complain that our stuff is "too expensive," but we struggle to make a profit. People always underestimate how much it costs to design and manufacture stuff in the USA. Everyone cries out when everything is made in China, but ***** and moan when US-made goods cost more, especially niche automotive products. There's a reason automotive aftermarket companies come and go every 5 years or so, and a lot of the time it's because they don't value their overhead appropriately and sell their products at an unsustainable price. Sure, it's enough for one guy to keep the lights on in a garage, but not enough money for him to grow, buy production equipment, and hire more guys. Eventually he's gonna get tired of it, and close up shop. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Also, to the "bullies" thing, I used to work in corporate R&D, and from what I've been able to read, Gobi weren't really dicks. They protected their patent. That "other" rack was a pretty obvious copy. It's pretty easy to work around a patent if you look into it hard enough, and sure the David/Goliath thing makes a great story, but Gobi is hardly a Goliath. I think I saw somewhere they've got under 50 employees? That sounds like "barely successful" to me. It's not like Gobi is the ONLY company making roof racks out there. I don't think it's unreasonable to protect their design.

Wasn't apparent that you disagree?? . . .since you kept posting on this thread and no one was responding. . .we get it...you like Gobi. Get a Gobi, but don't keep trying to push something when he clearly was passing on your suggestion. IN regards to Gobi being dicks. . .well that again is your opinion. We don't need to unhash how they tried "handling" the matters on here in a shady manner and the whole idea of patent trolls as well. But yeah you are right. . .great company. :rofl:

No offense, you just kept saying the same thing trying to elicit a response? To carry a conversation there has to be input from the other person, there wasn't anything directed to you so you just kept posting the same thing?

I'm guessing gobi pulled a metal tech. I understand both sides and see it like stealing music, software and movies. From the people I know they always do some form of it. If you shop at Walmart or Costco your guilty.
I don't think people should price gouge and monopolize that's why I don't buy some stuff I really want. Some companies have simple products that anybody can make. Other companies are really unique and can't be replicated. Those companies will stay as long as they price accordly and really want there products out there to be a regular name. If your gonna be a premium company then make the best product that somebody can't make for a quarter of the price.

OP.. I need a utility rack so my suv can act like truck once in a while. There isn't that many out there.

OP, I would say look here in the classifieds for a rack like you want, maybe one will come up for sale. Those Prinsu racks look killer on the Tacomas, I thought about getting one for my 3rd gen but when I asked about it I never got a response and they still don't make a full length one, only 3/4 length for 3rd gens. Another option would be to find a fabricator around you that could build you one to meet your desires.

I'm always willing to pay more for a quality piece that is made in the USA, pretty much everything on my truck is made in the USA actually.

It's easy to work around a normal patent maybe, the issue with Gobi's patent is that it is on "Vehicle specific roof racks". The fact that they were even able to get a patent on that shows how corrupt that system is. That's like going and getting a patent on vehicle specific wheels, allowing you to be the only one to make wheels for 4Runners, Jeeps, Hondas, whatever it may be.

If this is the case then we should protest gobi all together. They are the reason nobody is ever gonna make a roof rack for our rigs. I thought a lot of the metal tech clones look better. These laws promote companies not to make there product better.

I really want a ladder for the rear of my truck to get up on my rack, but the only manufacturer I know of that makes one is Gobi. I'll probably have to either pick up a used one or have one custom made since I would rather not support them for the reasons listed above.

I spent a lot of time looking into racks...When the time comes I will be pulling a trigger on a rack by Baja Rack.
