Stock muffler snapped off tailpipe what are my options.

I have been waiting for this day and after 205k miles the stock exhaust has finally given out. The rear tailpipe snapped off right at rear of the muffler. Of course this happened when I am living frugally and I can't swing the cost of a full cat back dual exhaust ($300-$1000). So I am looking to keep in cheap. I believe I can keep using the stock piping and just cut out the muffler and have a shop weld in a new one or if the length is close I could clamp it myself. I want a more than stock sound but I also leave for work at 4am and I don't want to wake my wife/kids.

So I am looking for opinions.
Keeping stock piping- good/bad idea? Cheapest would be a long glasspack but will it be too loud? Other more expensive ones are Flowmaster/Magnaflow but there are so many damn choices/models.

can you send us a photo? I believe you can order a replacement part at rockauto.com. if you don't want to spend anything for now, direct the exhaust to the ground for now where it snapped off. it may sound too noisy but at least you can still use it.

I ordered a walker direct fit for mine. It bolts to the tailpipe, if your tailpipe is still good. If not you can also get the tailpipe. The direct fit muffler has all the correct hangar brackets and ends. I think the muffler was 120.00 at Autozone.com...Rockauto also has it. Autozone had a discount and free shipping at the time, so shop around. Cheers. I have an 06 with the V8. That original muffler is one heavy son of a gun!

Photos added. The muffler still funtions but it broke right where the tailpipe connects to it. The walker kits are above what I would like to spend on a replacement. Roackauto has them the cheapest and its still $200 for the complete kit. I could hopefully get a better muffler and have a weld job done.

Yes, I am sure a muffler shop could fix you up. Beware of the tailpipe over axle clearance if you don't go stock. Mine had previously been repaired at the same spot as yours, and they didn't get the angle correct. Cheers

Mine broke in the same spot. I used the walker exhaust and it sounds like the factory one, perfect fit. It's cheap and works, I'd get it again.
