Ok, I have spent more time and money playing with exhaust parts on my '22 TRD Off Road than I care to admit. Here is what I learned. The first contestant was the Magnaflow Overland system. Well designed, fit nicely, but it was too loud for my taste. One drive from St George, UT to Phoenix and back and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. That went on eBay. Next up was something I had done on my 100 Series Lexus, the Flowmaster 70 series combined with a Y pipe built by a local shop that eliminated the second cats. Sounded AMAZING behind a V8, sounded like absolute crap behind a V6. That came off quickly, too. I also tried a Thrush Hush muffler, something that we had previously put on a 3rd gen with good results. Again, much too loud, and that may be at least partly because of the missing second cats. At this point, I noticed some cracks forming on the custom Y pipe, so I popped for the URD Y pipe, which is an absolute work of art! Fitment is perfect and the installation was ridiculously simple. At this point, I had a somewhat hacked up system from the Y pipe back because of all my experiments, so I thought I would buy an OEM-style replacement just to clean things up. I got a Walker system from Amazon. This thing wins the Flaming Turd award. Fitment was so bad it caused the stock tailpipe to hit the underside of the vehicle. It is also 1/8" smaller in diameter that the stock pipe. At WOT, there is a noticeable decrease in power and a lovely hissing sound that overly restrictive exhaust systems make. Very disappointing product. So, I cleaned up my stock system which is now mated to the URD Y pipe and that combination is BY FAR the best thing I have tried. It does make a bit more noise than stock, but there is no drone. So the moral to this story is, unless you just like noise, the best bang for the buck is URD Y pipe with a stock system. Apparently the Toyota hardware is very, very good with the exception of the idiotic Y pipe. None of the systems I tried provided any discernable increase in power or driveability with the exception of the Y pipe, most notably, the URD one, which does noticably improve power.
