Stock speakers glued to mounts. :(

Hi guys,

So I watched a bunch of walk throughs, studied the whole speaker upgrade process, got the door cards off great, but when I got to removing the speaker, I found its been glued to the mount. Is this normal? What am I supposed to do here? My new speakers will mount on to the old mount holes, but I can't get the old driver out.

You can see in the photos what I'm trying to get the speakers off, and the bead of dry glue on the backing.

its normal, dont sweat it. just use a flat screw driver and pry the old one out.. iirc its just hot glue, it was really easy, just use some force and pop it out.

Thanks 3rzrunner, I just had another look at it and attacked it with a butter knife and some elbow grease.

The old wires are soldered on, I don't have a soldering iron, is there any other way to attach the speaker wires?

Yeah that's how I did the harness for the head unit, but I was using 16-18 gauge butt crimps. So I'll just cut the existing speaker wires, and crimp them to the new ones. Need to buy some much smaller butt crimps.

Any idea which color is positive and negative? I'm used to black and red, this has yellow and grey.

the oe speaker has - and +. i took my connectors off and soldered them to the new speakers.

Soldering really is the way to go here. Butt connectors can come loose over time and then your speakers will cut out.

You can get a cheap kit from Fry's or something similar for about $20-$30. I have one like that and works great. I've done 2 cars so far and I solder every time.
