well if the thieves are on here I call dibs on his bumpers and lift JKK but seriously sorry this happend, I had my 4wheeler and 10ft trailer stolen off of my dads tundra one day while he was at work. The ppl just came in unhooked the trailer and took off no one saw a thing :/

On the next one I would put a fuel pump kill switch in a random spot that no one would think of, and then turn it off when you leave for 2+ days, and then you could also get a small GPS unit hidden in there to track the vehicle if it's stolen. I like the fuel pump idea better cause I'm not a huge fan of people being able to track my location.

My 2nd Gen had a chip you unplug underneath the dash and the 4runner wouldn't start. I wish I had that on my 2000. Might be able to get one of those installed.

You have a chip key on your limited so I think you are pretty good. My 97 has the factory alarm that shuts down the alarm. Unfortunately for all of us its pretty hard to prevent a theft if someone breaks into your house and takes your keys.

My father had his 91 4runner stolen years ago from the local dealership after he dropped it off to get serviced. I won't even go into what they did to his car.

I'm intrigued to hear more about a fuel pump kill switch. Has anyone ever done it in their runner? I cant imagine it being a timely or hard mod. It would be the cheapest and ultimate theft prevention. I honesty can say car theft around my area isn't huge. However, in the event of a car jacking, which is more likely I think, I can toss the keys at him to distract, reach wherever to flip the switch, and run. He'll never get away and would give me enough time to call the cops and watch the idiot.

So is there any update, any leads or clues?

I have to ask how many other homes were vandalized in your neighborhood the same day? Have there been many break-ins in the last month, 3 months, 6 months, year? If a few to none, then someone knew that you were gone whether by staking out the house or they were in your house at another time before this and knew their way around so they could get in and out quickly.

When I was in college and CDs were the main medium of music (I am 34), people would steal them constantly. I set up a video camera and caught the two guys who were stealing them every time my roommate and I threw a party. My roommate took great exception to their thievery. Damn shame what happened to their boat.
