Stolen E Locker actuator....

Some dipwad removed my E-locker motor off the truck. Was planing an off road trip this weekend and was just going over all the basics and making sure everything was working and of course when I tried engaging the locker no sound or no solid light. Went under the truck to see if any wiring or something noticeably was off and came to see wiring hanging down passed the diff with a missing actuator WTF!!!

Cant tell you how aggravated I am.. question is can I drive temporarily without an actuator?? I checked the fill plug on the diff and it’s still full of fluid but I have no clue how long i have been driving with it gone.. I want to go on this trip tomorrow even though I have no locker now and will potentially get left behind . But I need to make sure nothing will be damaged!

WTH? How did the bad guys know you had a elock under there? Doubt they went and checked out every 4r they come across. Bad guys getting desperate. Be extra vigilant.

That's certainly the weirdest thing I've heard about someone stealing off a car. Such a particular and specific item. And they're usually not easy to pull off.

They're pretty spendy little buggers, though. ANd prone to failure, at least up here in the salt belt.

That's going to leave a hole that diff oil can come out. Unless you can get that adequately sealed off, I think you'd better leave your truck put.
 
Without the actuator in place, it's possible that the locker could jostle from side to side and lock/unlock/possibly barely engage and get damaged. I'm sort of forgetting what the internals are like with the actuator off, but I'm thinking there's not much holding it in place.
 
If you can crawl under there and steal that actuator without getting noticed then you better check if anything else is missing... lmao are you sure it was bolted down?
 
I would troll around your area for people who also have a 3rd Gen 4runner. Unless somebody followed you back to your place, this theft was performed by someone near you that was obviously in need of an actuator.

You think so? I recall it being pretty firm, takes a little bit of force to move manually

One thing I can not stand are thieves. Sorry to hear someone 5 finger discounted your actuator. :(

This is got to be a first. 'Some one stole'4'spare wheels'and tires off of 4 different 4runner in Denver a while back that were parked in the same apartment complex so any thing is possible.

Yes, it was bolted down real good. I’ve found a good plug for now until I can source a used or new one.

This is what I was thinking! But not only 3rd gen runners.. All 4runners and Tacoma’s from 96-15 have the same actuator from what I know of. I know my dads 07 taco is the same cause I’ve swapped mine with his.

Once you know how to do it they're pretty easy to pull off... and with the price of a replacement a very worthwhile item to steal for the effort.
 
That's such an odd thing to steal! I'd scan Craigslist and FB marketplace, just for kicks and giggles. However, whoever stole it, probably needed one. What a scumbag.

Usually it's spare tires, catalytic converters and batteries!

But, an elocker actuator? :ohwell:

Mine was corroded in place pretty well. Maybe locking a nut on the long studs and using that to pull the studs out of the axle housing would helps?

And that aluminum base plate was corroded and stuck in the axle as well. I was *super careful* and patient with mine, but I still lightly cracked it during removal. Not bad enough to require replacing.

I just wanted to take mine apart and check for water intrusion. No signs of trouble, I just cleaned it well, regreased, resealed, put some aluminum primer on that backing plate, and put it back on.

Mine wasn't so corroded, but looks like the previous owner missed the top nut and tried to pry it off and it cracked. I managed to get it working a bit, but ultimately it's going to need replacing. Don't have 500 bucks to blow on that at the moment though! (I wasn't the one who stole it)
