Stripped transmission pan bolt

I stripped the drain bolt threads yesterday while performing a few drain and fills on my transmission. I was doing this at my parents house because I don't have a garage. The problem is, they live almost 2 hours away from me and I have to get back to work tomorrow morning. I have to leave the car and come back at the end of the week.

I'm going to replace the pan but I cant find a part number? Also, does the new pan come with a level check plug and drain plug or are they separate?

Can you just re-tap it and put a slightly larger plug bolt in it?

Go to lowes. Buy a tap and bolt bigger than your stripped one.

I would rather just replace the pan. I'm just looking for a part number and if the pan comes with the drain and level check plugs or not.

If you could find a source for a new pan you haven't given enough info for a accurate part number, what year 4Runner, V6 or V8?

90% sure it comes with new plugs. I did the same thing.

Well since you haven't updated with vehicle info yet I did a search for my 2004, it has the 5 speed transmission, if you have a early model...03, 04, not sure about the 05...with a V6 they have the 4 speed and you'll have to refine the search results.

Not sure if they come with drain plugs or not, I would recommend making a phone call once you decide on who to order from to make sure.

Yea it was really easy only problem is I forgot to run the car for the last quart so my transmission got overfilled.

It's a 2007 with v6.

The search results I posted will work for your 4Runner and 5 speed transmission, just to be sure once you get to any of the websites enter in your 4Runner's info for good measure so you're sure to get the correct pan, and also once again a phone call or send an email to find out if the drain plugs come with the pan, if not then you can order them as well,

I'm not sure on the V6 but R&R of the pan should be fairly easy unless your exhaust is in the way for removal, the best advice I can give you is be careful not to break off any of the bolts when removing them and especially when putting them back in, it's best to use a torque wrench to tighten them to the correct torque setting (most parts stores will usually loan out such tools for free but require a deposit) or if you plan on regularly doing more work on your 4Runner buy a set to have on hand), also first put all the bolts in finger tight making sure the gasket stays in alignment, then using the torque wrench tighten the bolts a little at a time starting in the middle and working left side to right side and front to back in an X pattern and repeat this process until you reach the correct torque setting, and also use the torque wrench on the drain plugs so you don't strip the threads again!!
