You should be able to order them from Toyota, not sure what the part number is. It’s an m8 but it’s a fairly high grade so I wouldn’t put some hardware store stainless studs in there because they will just shear off eventually

I believe in my search Toyota only sells the studs and cones that fit FJ's. The none threaded section is longer on those than the Tacomas used. I backed a few old studs out of a yard on and took it to fastenal to replicate. They did. I had them make like 25 of them so I have extras to replace if they do sheer. It cost about $100 for all of em.
Grade 8.8 is what they used I believe. None have sheered to date.

Am I the only one reading this as ‘I’m going to add manual hubs to my ADD hub?’
(If that’s the case; then you can’t do that.)
And stay away from the WARN ones.
Horrible fitment/many other issues from my understanding.
Toyota had everything you need for a manual hub swap.

Be fore warned these are the FJ ones...don't believe me... read the top right corner. The none threaded section is longer than the Tacoma hub studs. The cone washes they sell also FJ's. You can get by with both of these but will break due to the above reasons if wheeling hard. If you're the overland type you should be good to go. Just carry a couple spares to swap if need be.

I was under the impression that the threaded section is longer causing it to protrude further but they’d still work, I could be wrong though

so yea the studs are different but toyota parts diag show the cone washer are the same. as far as I can tell. I have compared the studs side by side and the difference is like <1mm so it's not a huge deal IMO.
the taco ones just don't exist anymore, I have looked a couple of times and they just don't make them.
Trail-Gear ARP 2000 Hub Stud Kit if you really want to beef it up.
I asked the rep at MC twice about using these for my manual hub conversion and he was adamant that they would not work. I ended up installing these:

Marlin Crawler change that due to my conversation with them. Yes FJ hardware will work but will break for our application. ARP will break less frequent. But studs and cones are different between FJ’s and Tacomas. FJ cones don’t seat flush the wheel assembly meaning they pinch the stud 2/3 the way down the stud where the none threaded section starts to taper making at the most common weak point. If you wheel your rig with this setup enjoy pulling broken studs. Sorry I don’t have spare taco cones or FJ cones to show comparison photos.

hmmm thanks, well dam it right. I will have to pull some studs off my 2000 and compare again. I have a zip lock someplace that has the original taco hardware I pulled from a 97 in the salvage yard one time.
finding a legit taco with manual hubs in the salvage yard is like finding a unicorn now days. I suppose Toyota did not sell very many in the first place some maintaining stock for them was not seen as needed.

Taco stud vs FJ stud...just for comparison. Also the cone washers are different sizes. Unfortunately I don't have FJ cones to do a comparison photo. FJ hardware will work. But once you push your rig things will breaks. ARP hardware will minimize that. I've been running Taco spec hardware for over a year with no breaks. Not saying I go hard...just saying haven't broke my hub hardware.

Hate to revive an old thread but this is the only forum post I could find anywhere that acknowledges the discontinuation of the Tacoma locking hub studs. I've been running class 8.8 bolts/blue loctite with Tacoma cone washers and hardware since completing a 4WD conversion on my Tacoma. So far I've continued to have issues with the bolts backing off.
I thought I had gotten a break when a Japanese parts supplier (MegaZip.net) claimed to have some studs in stock. After a 3 week wait they cancelled my order. Normally someone in the Middle East or Japan always comes through but that didn't work out this time.
I've spent the last month or so contacting different fastener companies to try and have some replicated. Most companies won't talk to me since I'm not with a business. It also appears Fastenal will no longer do business with anyone that doesn't hold a business account with them. I'd be more than willing to pay for the trouble if you are still able to do business with Fastenal and get some close to identical class 8.8 studs made.
Spoke with Off Road Solutions in Montrose, CO today. They should have some almost identical studs for sale on their website soon. I'll post comparison photos to a stock Tacoma stud when I get them. Not too worried since they've been using those without issue for 2 years in their manual hub conversion kits.
Couldn't find an option that was selected that would limit my PMs. I'll keep looking.
So I installed the Off Road Solutions studs yesterday. Figured since none of their customers have had a failure they should be better than running the pickup/land cruiser studs. But the smaller unthreaded section did worry me some. Ignore the damaged tap end threads on the Tacoma stud.
