2006 4Runner. Suddenly shut down while idling. Strong sweet burnt smell. Will not turn over,no click ,no warning lights. History. Submerged up to dash level for 30 minutes.New battery,ECU,fuel pump,throttle position sensor,starter,all fluids exchanged.Altenator appears to charge battery by increasing voltage from 12.64 to 13.54 with load. It was just running fine and quit. Burnt smell and no start. Appreciate any and all thoughts as I am stumped. .

I guess the real question is... was it saltwater or freshwater? Neither would present a happy ending on this, but salt water would eat electronics alive. I wonder if you may have fried your Electronic Control Unit. Occam's razor, Fire, Fuel, and Air. I live in Houston where it floods all the time. I would imagine you may see several hard-to-diagnose issues down the road, unfortunately. Good luck!

Behind the kick panels on both passenger and driver side floorboard, there are a bunch of electrical connectors. Disconnect all of those and check for moisture. Also blow them out with compressed air and optionally throw some dielectric grease on the connectors to combat future moisture.
Just submerged mine at an off road park, not as much and not for as long (water up to the pedals for about 15 minutes), but I'm also fighting some gremlins right now and some of them were solved be blowing out those connectors.

I had some issues last year with a clogged sunroof drain line and water making its way down the A-pillar. After a hard rain I would have a wet d/s floorboard. I cleared the clog using a bicycle brake cable run through the line and then used Silica Gel Packs to remove the excess moisture. I'd place one or more around or behind the kick panel as an added measure. Apparently this is a common issue with 4th gen 4runners.
