Suggestions for my '92 4Runner

So, I kind of need some suggestions on where to go with my Runner. I have two parts vehicles lined up (For free, my friends are amazing people) and am probably going to wind up cannibalizing one's interior so that mine has bearable seats and such. But from there I haven't a clue where to go. Thinking about swapping up to a bigger engine (Mine has the 3.sl0) instead of getting it rebuilt with the same one (The infamous blown Head Gasket). Definitely want to keep the 5-Speed Manual. But for suspension? Getting better performing items for under the hood? I'd like to know.

For everyone's information, I will NOT turn it into a crawler! It was my Grandpa's truck I'd like to keep it easy to take on road trips and the like, and I don't want to chop it to pieces. Thanks people!

If you can't do the work you'll be spending a lot having a shop do the conversion.
