Sunroof Rattle

I have an 05 Sport. A few weeks ago I started hearing a rattling coming from the sunroof on bumpy/rough roads. I get this rattle when the sunroof is closed or vented but nothing when slid opened. I noticed that on the passenger side, if I push up on the glass on the inside, I am able to push the glass up and down some but can NOT do this on the drivers side, so I was thinking maybe something came lose on that side of the glass or frame.

I had my 4Runner at the dealer yesterday for a yearly state inspection and had them take a look at the sunroof and the mechanic said that there was nothing wrong and that he could not reproduce what I was stating. I offered to go out to the lot and show how you can now push the glass up on the one side but not the other and he refused by saying he had no time and that it checked out fine for him. He also said he checked with Toyota bulletins and said there was nothing.

He then told me that the motor and tracks function perfectly fine and to not worry about it and said that he compared my sunroof with a Sienna that was on the lot and it did the same thing, that it had some movement in the glass. I then repeated myself saying that yes, there always has been a little flex in the glass but now I can move the passenger side a 1/4 inch now where I couldn't before and the rattling just started a few weeks ago.

I also told him that the sunroof in my Camry does NOT have this type of movement and he just shrugged his shoulders.

Since my conversation was going no where and he wasn't willing to go out with me so that I could show him what was wrong I told him to forget about it and I'll just wait till the thing flies off while going down the road and then bring it in.

So I guess my question is, has anyone else had anything similar with their roof and if there was a fix or not.

I have a similar vibrating/rattling sound when my sunroof is closed. I remember a thread on the forum that addressed it, and has a fix for it. Do a search and im sure you can find the thread. My solution was to turn the radio up a bit. I give it another 3-6months before it really starts to bother me. :lol:

I did search before my posting and I did see that post and that does not seem like the same problem. So...........again, is it not normal for the one side to be movable like I described and has anyone else come across this problem and what was the fix? Using grease isn't going to fix glass and frame from moving.

I hate that attitude. It's like he's saying you're an idiot and you don't really have a problem.

Anyway, I have the same issue. Like you, my sunroof has some deflection when pressed on it from the inside. The solutions that I've seen have been:

• Grease up the tracks
• Put spacers or rubber trim on the track bars
• Lube up the seal with silicon spray

None of the above worked for me either. I haven't had the time/inclination to drop the headliner & see if there's ANYTHING that can be tightened, adjusted, or replaced.
