Supercharged 5speed Peeps. Clutch choices

Bump

Anyone with a supercharger running the stock oem clutch? Or is aftermarket really the only way to go for clutch longevity?

Not in a 4runner, but in my (strictly street) 5spd 5vz s/c taco, the stock clutch was quickly the weakest link once I went s/c + urd, etc.

I've been running the ACT Stage III for about 70k miles and no signs of giving up yet. I beat the $#%@ out of it almost every time I drive it, and it hooks solid with LSD and 275 BFG KDW tires, never slips.

I'm not sure how that would translate to a 4runner that goes off-road, though.

Thanks for the info. How is the pedal feel on that? How is easy engagement? Any chatter?
I really hate the 6 puck clutch and lightweight aluminum flywheel that's in there now.

Wow. Somehow my sub to this thread got erased. JB I just responded to your PM. So everybody else knows the kit I got is working fine but it took a long time to get it to work as they sent me differing sizes of pressure plates and friction disk, and did want to make it right but as they are just a resaler they did not have good tech knowledge. After many emailed photos and phone calls they sent me a friction disk to match the pressure plate that they had originally sent. In hind site I believe I have a clutch in my supercharged 3.4 intended for a 3.0. Bolted in and has never slipped or chattered but is about a quarter to half inch smaller in diamater that what I replaced. If I was to do it again I would follow what I know to be Great Marlin. I have had 5 different clutches from marlin in 5 different trucks and the quality is unsurpassed. If and When this clutch goes out that is exactly what I will be going back to.

Thanks for the info and the PM.

I guess I'm just kind of curious why eclutchmasters provides a 2000-2300 lb. pressure plate while LC engineering and Marlin are around 1200-1400 lb.
Obviously the friction disc has a bit to do with it. I don't want to necessarily go with the 2300 lb. pressure plate if it will reduce the life of my master or slave cylinder.
But if it works, it works.

And to be honest, I'd much rather spend ~$200 instead of ~$300 on a clutch.

I appreciate the heads up on the customer service of eclutchmasters. I hope they have a bit more knowledge and a better process between now and when you ordered your clutch.
I did think it was weird when in my email conversation with them they said they could provide a 1400 lb. pressure plate, but it would not hold the power of the SC.
Anyone care to comment on that?

very street-able, took me about 10 miles of stop-and-go to get used to it. i'd say it behaves a lot like the stock clutch, but the pedal was maybe 2-3 times "stiffer" now. that was the most noticeable difference as far as user operation is concerned. no chatter, no unmanageable grabby-ness. no issues coming from a dead stop into 1st without touching the gas, smooth.

i think i paid around $360 for the kit a few years ago from a random online retailer.

I can tell you that my runner was supercharged the year it was built and went with a stock clutch for 164k I don't know how many times it was replaced but when I got it the only reason I replaced it was that I had the motor out and wasn't gonna miss the opportunity to replace the clutch while it was easy. I think that marlin and LCE are much more reputable company's in the toyota world and only sell what they know works. having a 2K+ clutch sounds really good when you are bench racing but in the real world I don't know if it really matters. I also like spending less and really have no complants about what is in my truck it has given me no problems and I have flooged it for about 15K both on and off road. Never missed a beat.
