Supercharging V.S. Turbocharging 3rd gen

I always mention this. Put a 2UZ-FE in it.
No but seriously I think I might put a 1 or 2 UZ-FE in it. It honestly seems like it will only run me one or two more grand then a safe supercharger set up. Has anyone paid a shop to do an engine swap? Im auto tranny, it seems like its not a very complicated swap I just dont trust myself to do it?

I kept right up! He has a ton more torque off the line, but that 4.7 has little top end power, so that is when I catch up

I have a 3.4l v6 4x4, and when i put it to the floor it drags a** . .

i dont understand this. i have NEVER felt my 4runner drags ass..is that because i have a stick? the only time i felt underpowered is if i'm in the wrong gear going up a bill..and usually its because i've spaced out and not noticed i'm in the wrong gear..a quick downshift and i'm good to go.

It might be that Im a little picky, but i bet its because you have a manual tranny I used to drive a Jetta with a measly two liter engine but was always satisfied with acceleration because I could manipulate the engine, and it helps that you have something to do when accelerating when I switched from the Jetta to the auto 4runner I was left with nothing to do but count the seconds till i got up to speed, having never driven a standard 4runner I cant say for sure but Im assuming that's why you are more satisfied with your performance than me. I also cannot express how jealous I am that you have a standard 4runner!

It is hard to say. I would say they are fairly even

So would you say after adding the S/C you were satisfied with performance, i understand its an S.U.V but I love everything about my 4runner (except the slowness) and would much rather upgrade it then sell it.. and if you have had the opportunity to drive and F.J. how would you say your S/C runner compares.. if I could get my 4runner close to where a stock F.J is I would be satisfied.

Yes, its because you have a stick. I drove a manual three years ago before buying mine, and now Im kicking myself in the face for not getting it. It was much quicker than my auto.

ahh, ok. never really thought about it.

yeah i love the stick. about the only time it was an issue was in gatlinburg tn..we were staying on a very steep 20%+ hill and if i had to stop for whatever reason before i got up that hill..it was H E L L to get going again. somteims i just rolled back into a driveway and then started out on even ground.

i wasnt swift enough to get off the brake and get the clutch engaged before the truck was starting to roll backwards FAST.

i did have 4 other people in the car too...

Is it as fast as the 4.0...yea it is. Is it as fast as the 4.7....yea it is.

BUT...both the 4.0 and 4.7 have much better drivability, that low end torque and power makes getting around town so much easier. They can take off from a stop and be at 2.5K RPM's and I would be at 3.5K RPM's to keep up. But once we both climb in the RPM range the boosted 3.4 with fuel upgrades will catch up, not pass, but catch up.

Nice. that's pretty much all i needed to hear, your not running methanol injection by any chance are you?

O boy, its fun to read the price estimates from 2012. Now in 2021, you can do a rear mount turbo for sub 2k, and 2k is splurging on a few parts. But now the SC, ouch.. I would have went with one if I could have put it together for less than 4k, or even more difficult just be able to find one.

I have a 3.4l v6 4x4, and when i put it to the floor it drags a** . I realize that the best way to juice it up is through forced induction. I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are on S/C V.s T/C. Some things i want to consider are final millage, additional horsepower, ease of self instillation, risk to vehicle integrity, and of course final cost. Any thoughts on the subject are appreciated.
Supercharger has proven itself over and over again. Would definitely choose SC

Loved my s/c runner when I had it. Even with the stock pulley.
But overall my other vehicles that were turbod were way better
