Suspension broke @ 75mph

Yeah Sungod, that wasnt me about the battery and my reply was towards the ******* who has more money in his cars than my house is worth.

My bad. I thought you were pointing toward me. I was trying to figure out what I could have done. My only pet peeve is people posting their mileage in relationship to the battery life, but didn't think that was enough to set someone off. :thumb3:

But I do agree that it doesn't look like lower control arm at all. I would bet $1,000,000 that it is not LCA related.

BTW, what part of DFW are you in? If I didn't already have a day trip planned tomorrow I'd offer to come help turn a wrench.

Thanks for the offer, lets just say beltline about 10 min from plano. :) Thanks to all, it was the hub bearing/wheel bearing.

What exactly broke? Looks like the bearings grenaded. I assume you are replacing the tire, hub, bearing, and axle shaft. The design appears to have worked because had the axle not kept things together it would have been a disaster as the wheel ripped off then you would have been in the hands of god.

Why would Toyota pick up the tab? This is normal wear and tear with 200+k miles. I would change the one on the other side also. It is most likely ready to fail also.
 
I have to agree. It is ridiculous to assume that Toyota or any manufacturer would produce an invincible product. America's entitlement mentality, linked to the over abundance of litigation has bred a culture with utterly unrealistic expectations.

A manufacturer gives a warranty, beyond the warranty it is normal to assume that things will break. it sucks, but they do. I am glad everyone is ok, but lets slow the "blame toyota" train down.
 
Yeah at 200+k miles. You don't have much of an argument. But glad you are alright and it's a reasonably easy fix. I agree with everyone else...replace the other side too while you're at it. Might be worth taking a look at the rears as well. 200k miles is about all you can expect from major suspension parts and bearings so it's time to do some serious maintenance.

Nailed it. I'm replacing the hub/bearing(both), tire, axle(thing got tore up, wasn't even leaking last oil change) and caliper. I guess when the bearing broke and the tire angled, the caliper did not move because its directly bolted to the spindle and the rotor dug up into it and now its leaking. :( And yes I would have taken it right to Toyota if I was still in the warranty.
