Sway bar issue

I had a 3/2 toytec installed. I was told one of the bolts that holds the sway bar on was loose, because the nut on the inside of the frame broke loose during the install?
So i proposed welding a 1/2 in plate to the frame over the old holes and drill new ones. Can anyone see something going wrong with what im thinking, or have a better idea.
I looked at the bolts and they're all in and feel tight. Are those bolts threaded through the frame too or is it only the nut in the frame that should be holding them together?
Any help/info is appreciated.

There's usually a bolt welded on the inside of the frame to secure things like swaybars and such.

Ya, pretty sure it's only a nut, the frame metal is not threaded as well.

If you don't want to cut the frame and put a new nut in, then the plate idea is your best step I would think.

Are you sure the nut broke loose ? If its just stripped you can tap it to a larger size or try a Nutsert. This a alot easier than cutting frame or adding the plate.

That really sucks. They should ban using salt on roads in the winter! Corrosion kills the underbody of vehicles in states that salt their roads.

My first 4Runner was owned in New York and it was in really rough shape. I used an angle grinder with a wire wheel to clean up 80% of it. I'd just clean it up, weld a plate and paint it. That would ensure that both sway bar mounts are secure. It could be an obvious problem if the other side let loose out on the road. You could also probably clean up both areas and maybe tap the frame. The torque specs for those bolts isn't that high.

A lot of people who run the 3/2 lift utilize a swaybar relocate kit that works similarly to your original "plate fix" idea. You should be fine going about it that way.
